Hamburg striker Preston Zimmerman has been chosen to replace Bolton's Johann Smith on the United States roster for the upcoming FIFA Under-20 World Cup.

Smith suffered a third degree ankle sprain in Monday's 4-0 scrimmage victory over New Zealand.

Coach Thomas Rongen will miss the dangerous Smith, but he is confident in his stand-in's ability.

"We have a player in Preston Zimmerman who brings a lot of experience to our team, having scored goals previously in the U-17 World Cup and with the U-20s," the US U-20 coach told USSoccer.com.

The team begins group play on Saturday against South Korea.
