Wicky Visiting Chivas USA

by Greg Seltzer - August 7, 2007

Hamburg defensive midfielder Raphaël Wicky has begun a fact finding tour of Chivas USA, with a possible view to an MLS move.

The Switzerland mainstay, capped 75 times by his country, could be lured to America by life in one of the big cities. The Los Angeles Galaxy were the first to be offered a shot at Wicky, but have already filled their Senior International roster quota.

The versatile 30-year old is now working out with the Goats, and has plans for a one-on-one lunch with coach Preki after he soaks in the club's atmosphere a while longer.

"He arrived Sunday night," Wicky agent Marcel Schmid told American Soccer Daily. "He is looking for the next step in his career, and MLS might be of interest to him in the right area."

"(Galaxy boss) Frank Yallop would have loved to have him in. He is the kind of guy they need, someone to organize, keep the ball. The problem is their four international slots are covered."

When Chivas USA became aware that the World Cup 2006 standout was considering the move to an MLS metropolis, they quickly got involved.

"They started to become more and more interested, especially Preki" recounted Schmid. "(They) decided to invite him to LA."
