Ryan Tabs Initial WC 18

by Greg Seltzer - July 11, 2007

US National Team boss Greg Ryan has 18 of the 21 players who will take part in the 2007 Women's World Cup, which begins in China in September.

The team is highlighted by Energizer Bunny veteran Kristine Lilly and strike ace Abby Wambach, and an experienced core of backliners that includes Kate Markgraf, Christie Rampone and Cat Whitehill.

World Cup 2003 standout Shannon Boxx, Lori Chalupny, Carli Lloyd and Aly Wagner will be present in midfield, while the coach has two solid netminding choices in mainstay Briana Scurry and Hope Solo.

"We named the 18 now because we've been in Residency Camp two years in a row, we've spent two years together and we know these players inside out," Ryan told USSoccer.com. "These 18 have earned the right to be on this World Cup Team."
