Bradley Names Poland Roster by David Berger - March 23, 2008

US Men's National Team coach Bob Bradley has named an 18-man roster for Wednesday's friendly against Poland in Krakow (3:30 pm ET on FSC).	▪ U-23's Punch Olympic Ticket

Ten of the players called up currently play in England, including the Fulham trio of US captain Carlos Bocanegra, Clint Dempsey and Eddie Johnson. The others called who are currently playing in England are Everton keeper Tim Howard, West Ham's Jonathan Spector, Derby's Benny Feilhaber and Eddie Lewis, Reading's Marcus Hahnemann, Charlton's Cory Gibbs and Watford's Jay DeMerit. Gibbs has not suited up for the Red, White & Blue since before the 2006 World Cup due to injuries and DeMerit has not played for the team since August of last year. Five of the players called up play on other European squads: Heerenveen's Michael Bradley, Hannover 96's Steve Cherundolo, Standard Liège's Oguchi Onyewu, Hansa Rostock's Heath Pearce and 1860 Munich's Josh Wolff. Cherundolo will be making his first appearance of the year, while Wolff is chasing his 50th cap. Only three MLS players were called up from MLS, which kicks off a new season this weekend. US all-time leading scorer Landon Donovan is set for his 99th cap, while Brian Ching and Ricardo Clark of the Dynamo will also be making the trip to Poland. "This is an excellent opportunity to gather a majority of our European-based players and continue to make evaluations prior to the start of World Cup qualifying," Bradley told ussoccer.com. "We have established a core group of players, and want to build on principles we have established over the last year as we approach the critical schedule for qualifying this summer." "Starting with Poland, we have arranged a series of challenging matches that will help to prepare our team for what lies ahead." These two countries last met in Germany in 2006 during preparations for the 2006 World Cup, a goal from Clint Dempsey giving the US a 1-0 win in Dortmund. The Americans hold an overall record of 6-7-2 against Poland. This will be the sixth time these two teams have met in Poland, where the US holds a 3-2-1 advantage. A goal from DaMarcus Beasley led the US to victory the last time the two clashed in Poland back in March of 2004.
