'Nats Call 22 for Mexico

by Greg Seltzer - February 3, 2008

US coach Bob Bradley has summoned 22 players to Houston for Wednesday's friendly with arch rivals Mexico (8:00 pm CT on espn2, Univision; Fútbol de Primera Radio Network).

While many of the assembled will be tried and true regulars, the squad is also sprinkled with a liberal dose of green internationals.

The boss has called up 11 players from MLS, including all-time top USMNT scorer Landon Donovan and hot keeper target Brad Guzan of Chivas USA. Among the 11 flying over from Europe, two have only recently gone overseas from MLS (Eddie Johnson and Pat Noonan) and three are hot national team prospects struggling mightily to find playing time with their clubs (Freddy Adu, Benny Feilhaber and Heath Pearce).

The Reliant Stadium showdown will be the 54th match in the series, with the US holding 14 wins and 10 draws. However, the 'Nats have eight wins and a draw in their last nine stateside visits from El Tri.

"With the match falling on an international fixture date, this is an excellent opportunity to get the nucleus of our team together as we continue to prepare for World Cup qualifying," Bradley told ussoccer.com.
