The Americans are 2-6-0 against England since they first played each other in their historic 1950 World Cup match, when the US pulled off a gigantic 1-0 upset. They last played each other in May of 2005 in Chicago, with England winning 2-1 thanks to a pair of goals from Kieran Richardson. Clint Dempsey scored the lone goal for the US.

The US has not played at England since 1994, when the hosts won 2-0, but the US defeated the Three Lions 2-0 the previous year in Foxboro, Massachusetts.

"We have consistently said that one of our goals is to play matches against good opponents and in environments that will really challenge our team," US head coach Bob Bradley told ussoccer.com.

"In addition to the quality of the English team, the tradition and passion for the sport in that country, the media focus, and the intensity of the fans all combine to make this a fantastic opportunity for our group. We are very pleased with the schedule we have put together to help us prepare for World Cup qualifying."

The match may take some players away from their clubs. Houston Dynamo and FC Dallas play on the same day, DC United and the New England Revolution play the next day and eight more MLS teams play on the 31st. The English Premiership ends in early May, however, so all players based there will be free to take part.

The US will now be playing three games in Europe to help them prepare for World Cup qualifying. The US plays at Poland on March 26th and at Spain on June 4th.

The US will take on Barbados or Dominica at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California for their first World Cup qualifier on June 15th. The second leg will be played on the road sometime between June 18th and June 21st.
