▪ Adu Trick Paces US Rout

A punchless US Men's National Team was edged 1-0 in their Copa América farewell against Colombia in Venezuela on Thursday night.

After a tame beginning, Jaime Alberto Castrillón nodded his side ahead from a Camilo Zuñiga cross in the 16th minute. Three minutes later, Drew Moor had to clear his line after a Colombia restart descended into a goalmouth scramble.

Near the half hour, Herculez Gomez took off on a 40-meter scamper with the ball to be fouled near the right top corner of the area. Colombia was, however, able to clear away Justin Mapp's entry serve.

Ten Minutes later, Los Cafeteros were handed a chance to double when Brad Guzan raced off his line to take down the free running Hugo Rodallega in the area. The Chivas USA keeper atoned for his sin by blocking the striker's weak spot attempt for Danny Califf to clear away.

Eddie Gaven entered at halftime for the US, and he would nod over from close range in the 53rd minute. The US would add some industry in later subs Charlie Davies and Lee Nguyen, but would never come close to equalizing.

Colombia should have put the game away with six minutes left, but Nguyen hustled back to interrupt a jailbreak final ball to the slot.

Kyle Beckerman thought he had leveled in the waning moments from a corner kick, but the offside was already correctly up. Colombia keeper Robinson Zapata received his marching orders for a second time-wasting yellow near time, but the US were not able to take advantage.
