USMNT Set for Azteca Expedition

by Johannes de Jong - August 1, 2007

Having recently come away with regional bragging rights by winning the CONCACAF Gold Cup over fierce rivals Mexico, the US Men's National Team is slated for a late summer "friendly" rematch against El Tri at Estadio Azteca on September 9th.

Bob Bradley's boys will be forced to pack bags and head south knowing that history is not on their side. Despite Bradley boasting a 2-0 record over El Tri, there is a decided away disadvantage for the visitors.

In the long history between the two North American powerhouses, the US have never managed a win on Mexican soil, boasting an unenviable 0-22-1 record south of the border.

The last time that these two teams played at Azetca, a 2-1 World Cup 2006 qualifying loss was served to the Americans thanks to goals by Jared Borgetti and Omar Bravo.

ESPN2 and Galavision are set to broadcast, starting from a 3:00 PM CT kickoff.

The match comes just weeks after another foreign-based friendly in Göteborg against host nation Sweden on the 22nd of August.
