Dombrowski Revels in Glow

IK Sirius handyman extraordinaire Tighe Dombrowski admits he became a little more revved than usual after his waning moments double flipped the scoreline on visiting Jönköpings Södra IF on Friday night.

For 84 minutes, it looked as if a dominant Sirius performance would somehow result in a 1-0 loss. That all changed quickly as the American scored two goals in the closing moments of the game to seal a key victory and delight the loyal Uppsala crowd.

"It is definitely a moment I will remember for a while," Dombrowski intimated to American Soccer Daily.

Both goals surprisingly came after the versatile left back had shifted over to a right wingback position as Sirius went with an offensive 3-5-2 in search of late goals. The role freed Dombrowski to get forward and he used it to great effect.

"The first goal came off a quick restart," said Dombrowski. "I received a pass just at the top of the box and tried to cut in and shoot with my left, but couldn't get a good look, so I spun around and just tried to get off a quick one with my right."

The ex-San Jose Earthquake connected well and his shot deflected slightly off a defender and into the roof of the net. While his first goal came as more to the relief of the crowd, the winner was another matter all together.

"On the second one, I was waiting at the top of the box and a cross came in," he recounted. "A few players were fighting for it and it popped out. I ran onto it and hit it on a half volley and put it to the near post."

"The reaction from the crowd was fantastic. Even though we were down and it was getting close to the end, they were behind us - after the (second) goal they went ape."

The dramatic game winner caused the normally reserved Dombrowski to sprint across the field while the home crowd went crazy in his moment of glory.

"I am typically calm and pretty laid back in a situation like that, but the reaction from the crowd was incredible so it inspired me to take off running," he concluded. "The crowd was great all game and especially then, you can't ask for much more."
