DAVIES NETS KEY GOAL IN DRAMATIC COMEBACK
Charlie Davies led a dramatic late comeback for 10-man Hammarby as the won 2-1 over Gefle IF on Monday night.

The US forward was active and dangerous throughout, and with better luck and better finishing could have easily notched a hat trick.

The possible Olympian had the best chance of the opening stages of the game when midfielder Petter Andersson slipped a pass through the Gefle defense. Unfortunately, Davies was only able to get his toe onto the pass and his shot went wide.

Gefle's dangerous forward, Johan Oremo, got behind the Hammarby defense in the 40th minute and won a penalty when he was the victim of an awkward challenge by Jose Monteiro, who was unlucky to be dismissed. Mathias Woxlin made no mistake from the penalty spot to put Hammarby in a 1-0 hole with 10 men.

Only a minute after the goal, Davies had a great chance to equalize when he ended up one-on-one with the Gefle keeper, but he put his shot wide.

Hammarby shored up their defense at halftime by bringing on defender Christian Traoré for Haris Laitinen, but continued to pour forward with the attackers they had to spare. Hammarby goalkeeper Rami Shaaban kept Hammarby in the game as Gefle countered and he made a number of high quality saves, showing the form Sweden desperately needs from him in the upcoming European Championships.

As time was running out, Davies took down a long ball in the penalty box, was able to turn his defender to hit a shot that deflected off a defender and into the net to equalize the game.

The goal clearly energized Davies, who had a number of great chances including a shot off the post and another chance that dropped right in front of him, but Hugosson made a wonderful save to keep the ball out.

Bajen now could not be stopped, however and in the 93rd minute, substitute Claudio Dadomo shot past Hugosson after a pass from Andersson.

The victory leaves Hammarby in sixth place going into the European Championship break. Davies goals over the last two games give him three games in the first 11 games.

BURNS BEATEN IN SECOND LEAGUE START
American keeper Colin Burns was unable to save Ljungskile SK, who fell 2-0 to Norrköping at home on Sunday to continue their poor league form.

Burns was the surprise starter as he guarded the net for only his second Allsvenskan match of the season. The American impressed throughout and made a number of quality saves as Norrköping frequently broke through LSK's defense. Etchu Tabe, however, did not make the bench.

Norrköping broke through in the 15th minute when Kevin Amuneke who finished a quick counter attack. Burns was chanceless on the shot that was hit hard between him and the post.

Norrköping should have increased their lead in the 41st minute, but Burns stood strong between the pipes. Amuneke got a double chance, but Burns made back-to-back kick saves.

Two minutes later, Burns flung himself to parry away another shot that was destined for the corner.

The visitors extended their lead shortly after the half when Imad Khalili got onto a through ball and finished expertly past the frustrated American.

LSK pressed and went close to an equalizer when Aleksandar Kitic went for goal from distance and then won a free kick outside the box that David Leinar put just wide of the box to sum up their disappointing afternoon.

The loss leaves Ljungskile in a respectable 11th place out of 16 teams with the league going into a seven week break for the European Championships.
