West Ham defender Jonathan Spector has wished former teammate Carlos Tevéz good luck at Manchester United, adding that the whole saga of the Argentinean at Upton Park was 'definitely a unique one'.

The soccer world was amazed when the Argentina star showed up at the East London club last August, before turning hero by saving the Hammers from relegation with a string of game-winning performances late in the season.

The controversy surrounding third party involvement in his transfer rumbled on all summer, with relegated Sheffield United still dealing with lawyers over the legality of Tevéz playing for West Ham in the first place and helping to relegate the Blades to the Championship.

Following protracted negotiations involving FIFA and the British courts, the striker was finally unveiled yesterday as a Manchester United player by Sir Alex Ferguson.

"It certainly was a strange situation," Spector told American Soccer Daily. "That is why there has been so much discussion and uncertainty about it. But I had no say or influence, so I just got on with it and it is over now."

The Illinoisan acknowledged the Tevéz contribution in keeping his team up and extended his good wishes to him as he leaves.

"Carlos came on really strong for us at the end of the season and made a big impact for us, which we really needed," said Spector. "But he has gone now, so obviously I wish him all the best at Old Trafford."

And if Spector has a tip for the title, he has little hesitation in naming Tevéz' new employers, the same team who plucked him from US soccer into the Premier League in 2003.

"I would not be surprised," he said of United. "They have added some really good players, so it will be interesting to see how they mold into the squad. They were pretty good before!"
