Thanks to a highlight reel winner, Standard Liège downed visiting Sint Truiden 2-1 on Friday night to establish a four-point lead atop the Jupiler League table.

Oguchi Onyewu took his usual place in central defense for Les Rouches, who won for the third straight time and pushed their unbeaten run to seven.

Standard grabbed a fortuitous opener just past the half hour when Rocky Peeters fanned on a soft Dante Costa serve into the box. Dieumerci Mbokani suddenly found himself in alone and made no mistake in beating Sint Truiden keeper Simon Mignolet.

Peeters atoned for his defensive gaffe with a goal 11 minutes later. The midfielder hopped onto a loose ball at the top of the box to fire home the equalizer.

The stalemate lasted only two minutes as Igor De Camargo put Standard ahead to stay on a stunning link-up with Mbokani, whose bicycle kick cross was nodded in by the Brazilian a minute before the break.

The hosts played fortress defense in the second half, giving STVV few good looks at goal to close out the win.

Les Rouches continue their title chase at fourth place Germinal Beerschot on Friday.
