Taking advantage of Club Brugge's postponed match, Standard Liege moved level with the Jupiler League pacesetters by scoring a 3-1 home win over Genk on Sunday.

Oguchi Onyewu went the distance in defense, picking up a late booking that will force him to miss the next league match, a January 19th visit from Zulte-Waregem.

Les Rouches opened the scoring on 19 minutes when Milan Jovanovic crossed from the left for the onrushing Grégory Dufer to lash home at the far post.

Standard would continue to pile on the pressure, yet had to wait until after intermission to double their lead. A minute after halftime, Dufer's cross from the right was a little too tall for Igor De Camargo, but Jovanovic was on hand to bury the 2-0.

Two minutes later, Jovanovic made it three from another Dufer set-up. Despite being hauled down by Eric Matoukou, the Serbian was able to convert from close range.

Genk pulled one back when Rorys Espinoza bumbled a long range effort from Jelle Vossen in the 66th minute, but that was as close as the visitors would come.

Onyewu had a chance to add on late by getting his head to a Salim Toama free kick in the 88th minute, but the shot fell straight into the arms of Genk keeper Sinan Bolat.
