He will oversee all club personnel, including coaches, first team players, reserves and youth development.

"For me personally, it's a dream come true to come back here and help build this team [and] franchise," said Doyle at Wednesday's press conference.

Doyle played five seasons in San Jose in which he was the captain of the squad in each of those five years. He was also named MLS Defender of the Year in 1996, the league's inaugural season.

"John's experience in developing young soccer talent throughout the country, combined with his years of experience both on and off the field, makes him a perfect fit for the Earthquakes franchise," said Earthquakes President Michael Crowley.

Doyle has served in a variety of management roles in the United States, including Director of Coaching for Mustang Soccer, a youth soccer club in Southern California, and in 2001, was elected to the Board of Directors of US Soccer.

Also on Wednesday, the Earthquakes unveiled their home and away jerseys for the 2008 season. San Jose's home jersey will have a black background with white writing, while the away jersey will have a white background with royal blue lettering.
