Even though Sheffield Wednesday are currently rock bottom of the Championship, talented American Frank Simek has once again pledged his allegiance to the club.

Rumor was rife that Everton were poised to table a £3 million bid for the much vaunted 22-year old during the summer, which would have united him with international comrade Tim Howard. However, the St Louis-born full back reiterated his desire to stay at Hillsborough by agreeing to a new three-year deal with the Owls earlier this month.

Simek, who helped the US win the Gold Cup in June, refuses to be distracted by speculation or interest shown in him.

"It means you must be doing something good if people are talking about you, but I'm happy here at Sheffield Wednesday," Simek told American Soccer Daily. "Obviously everyone wants to play in the Premiership, but fingers crossed, hopefully I can help to take Wednesday there."

On the renewal of his contract, he added: "After I came back from America with the national team, we had a couple of meetings and got things done and dusted in a fairly short space of time."

"I'm very happy. I wanted to get it sorted before the season started and now I can concentrate completely on my football."

Wednesday will be searching for their first Championship point of the season when they face Bristol City on Saturday.
