Both teams struggled for a win that would increase chances of reaching the MLS playoffs, and the tie leaves them wanting for points: 20 for Real and 18 for the Galaxy, 10 behind eighth place Chicago.

Real Salt Lake dominated and outplayed LA Galaxy, out-shooting them 19-9. Unable to capitalize, Real was left pursuing LA's aggressive comeback late in the second half, producing a nail biting finish.

A penalty in the 56th minute by Carey Talley put RSL ahead until the 79th minute when Landon Donovan answered with a penalty shot of his own, his sixth goal of the season.

Real Salt Lake continued to pummel the Galaxy defense but in the 85th minute Donovan's beautiful pass penetrated Real's defense, leaving Glinton to face keeper Nick Rimando. Glinton's low shot put Real behind with five minutes left on the clock.

The Galaxy's lead was short-lived, however, as Argentinean Javier Morales, who was substituted into the match minutes beforehand, curved a free kick past the and into upper right hand corner.

The visiting team returns home to face FC Dallas, having lost eight of their last 10 games. Real Salt Lake stays home where they'll encounter the Colorado Rapids on Saturday.
