4-Star Standard Alone at the Top

by Greg Seltzer - August 25, 2007

Standard Liège punched home four goals yet again and Oguchi Onyewu's defense had no trouble making it stand up as Les Rouches took sole possession of the Jupiler League penthouse with a 4-0 defeat of hosts Roeselare on Saturday.

En fuego attacker Milan Jovanovic bagged a hat trick, which he started with a free kick blast in the 12th minute.

The midfielder narrowly missed his second a minute later, but would eventually grab it by scooping up a 27th minute loose area ball to fire home.

Standard continued to dominate and Jovanovic turned provider after the hour, slipping Dieumerci Mbokani in on the right for a toe poke strike.

The unmarked Man of the Match closed the scorebook four minutes later by burying an Axel Witsel centering feed to take the top spot on the league goal chart.
