▪ Denmark Sunday Review

Ian Joy and Pauli prescribed aspirin for Bayer with a 1-0 upset, while Heath Pearce showed some new colors in a Hansa romp.

MAINZ CRUISE WITH SIX
Recent Bundesliga dropouts Mainz put forth a sublime attacking display as Jürgen Klopp's men fired home a 6-1 win.

▪ Pearce Gets Stuck In
▪ No Joy Without Pain

American defender Neven Subotic played the full 90 minutes as his side created chance after chance with Milorad Pekovic, Francis Laurent, Markus Feulner and Daniel Gunkel scoring along with a Petr Rumel double.

The hosts pulled one back through Matthia Gutzler in the 39th minute, but the game was quickly out of reach after that.

LIONS POUNCE ON VERL
1860 Munich put up an attacking front to slot three past SC Verl for a ticket to the next round.

Gregg Berhalter played the full 90 at the back, with Josh Wolff adding his attacking zest before being subbed out in the 84th minute.

The emphasis, however, was on attacker Antonio Di Salvo, who bagged a hat trick, starting with a superb individual effort in the fourth minute before adding two more in the final 15 minutes.

ST. PAULI SLAY GIANTS
In perhaps the headlining score of the Pokal round, St. Pauli pulled a major home 1-0 upset over Bayer Leverkusen at the Millerntor.

American fullback Ian Joy held true at his familiar left back role to help shore up the defense against a stacked Leverkusen attack that includes the likes of Germany internationals Stephan Kießling and Bernd Schneider.

Pauli midfielder Fabian Boll scored the game's only goal from a set piece in the 87th minute to send the visitors home shocked and disappointed.

EASY WIN FOR STRONG HANNOVER
Die Roten cruised to a 3-1 win over Ahlen, with new kid on the block Mike Hanke stamping his mark with a 44th minute strike.

Thomas Kleine used some acrobatics to slot home a fourth minute opener, with Arnold Bruggink adding a quick second from 11 yards out.

The home side pulled one back through Sebastian Schoof in the 62nd minute, but Steve Cherundolo and the back line held firm to send Hannover into the next round. New singing Bruin Sal Zizzo did not take part in the affair.

HANSA PIERCE HASBORN WITH EIGHT
Heath Pearce put in a full shift as his new Hansa Rostock teammates gave a small Hasborn side a lesson in scoring through an 8-0 romp.

The match was Pearce's competitive debut in his new team's colors.

Sebastian Hähnge and Enrico Kern each put two away, with Orestes, Stefan Beinlich, Djorjije Cetkovic and René Rydlewicz all chiming in.

ON THE SIDELINE
Kamani Hill was absent from a VfL Wolfsburg's 4-0 win over Würzburger FV.

VfL Osnabrück missed Joe Enochs in a 1-0 loss to Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Benny Feilhaber was left home to rest as HSV won 5-0 over fellow northerners Holstein Kiel.

Josh Grenier did not play in TuS Koblenz's 3-0 win over TSV Havelse.
