New England Revolution's Michael Parkhurst has added the 2007 MLS Visa Defender of the Year award to the MLS Fair Play Award he collected last week.

Emerging top from a shortlist containing Chivas USA's Claudio Suarez and Houston's Eddie Robinson, the 23-year old scooped his fourth award in just three professional seasons.

Said Parkhurst, "I'm honored to be voted the league's defender of the year. There are a lot of great defenders in this league, so to be singled out is humbling."

The Rhode Island native has had a superb season for the Revolution, marshalling their miserly defense as they finished second in the Eastern Conference and scoring a memorable 60-yard lob in the clash with Toronto FC.

Keen not to get carried away, the 2005 Gatorade Rookie of the Year pointed out, "Any defensive award is also a testament to the whole team, so my teammates - from the back to the front - are a big part of this honor."

Also caught in a hailstorm of accolades has been Kansas City Wizards striker Eddie Johnson. Golden boot and MVP winner at his club, the prolific hit man was named 2007 Comeback Player of the Year.

After a tricky 2006, Johnson enjoyed a somewhat epic 2007, setting career highs in five statistical categories (assists, shots, shots on target and fouls suffered) and clocking in with 15 goals.

Wizards coach Curt Onalfo paid tribute to his goal scoring talisman: "Eddie Johnson has worked extremely hard and has been in a positive frame of mind all year. This award is a tribute both to Eddie's efforts and the success of the team."

Johnson fought off competition from New England's Pat Noonan and Columbus Crew's Frankie Hejduk to claim the award.
