HEERENVEEN FALLS IN ROTTERDAM

Two goals inside of a six-minute span of the first half would be all home side Feyenoord would need to see off Heerenveen 2-0 and take a tentative lead atop the Eredivisie on Saturday night.

The De Kuip crew nearly broke on top after only two minutes, but Nicky Hofs was unable to beat Frisians keeper Brian Vandenbussche from close range.

Feyenoord would open in the 21st minute when Roy Makaay bagged the rebound of a Luigi Bruins shot off the post.

Shortly thereafter, Hofs clinically nodded low past Vandenbussche from a Gio van Bronckhurst corner kick flick.

Heerenveen brought Afonso Alves on for his season debut at halftime, along with Poland forward Radoslaw Matusiak.

The visitors showed initiative, but were unable to find the net. Kevin Hofland cleared his line of a Roy Beerens effort near the hour, then repeated the feat a few minutes later.

MEN FROM OSS OUTGUN CAMBUUR
TOP Oss moved to within two points of the period leaders with a solid 3-2 win over visitors Cambuur Leeuwarden on Sunday night.

Charles Kazlasukas went his usual 90 minutes at right back for the hosts.

Cambuur had the first chance, with Wilko de Vogt pawing away a curling shot by Mark Mboua. TOP followed with a good chance at the other end, but Revy Rosalia's streaking header sailed just over the bar.

The Men from Oss broke on top with 10 minutes left in the opening frame as Rosalia teed up Davy Zafarin for a cracking 20-meter drive.

The visitors nearly leveled in quick fashion, but Kerst Hofman rang the post after chesting down a free kick lob that TOP failed to cover well.

Cambuur would draw level shortly after the break as Rudy Jansen roofed Joris van Rooijen's centering feed from a restart. Mboua then tried another curl job, but De Vogt was again able to make an acrobatic stop.

Tony de Groot came on for his TOP debut at the hour and only needed a few minutes to find his way onto the scoresheet. The #29 shirt chested down a Davy Zafarin lob on the hop and shook his man to blister a shot into the upper 90.

The northerners came close to a fast leveler, only to have former TOP man Marinus Dijkhuizen glance his header off the far post.

With 14 minutes left, Rosalia picked his spot with a left-footed effort to give the home side some fortunate breathing room as Chris de Wagt rose high to nod in a corner kick for the Leeuwarden bunch with eight minutes left.
