In our weekly peek around the league: Brad Guzan is becoming popular overseas, Jaime Moreno seals his United return and Miami keeps trying for another chance.

......

According to Soccernet, Aston Villa have made a $4 million offer to Chivas USA and Major League Soccer for US international goalkeeper Brad Guzan. The offer is reportedly double what Scottish giants Celtic bid last week for the reigning MLS Goalkeeper of the Year.

On loan Villa goalkeeper Scott Carson could be headed permanently back to Liverpool after the season, which could open up the starting job for Guzan.

The hunt to get a MLS franchise in Miami continues to heat up as Florida International University's new 18,000 seat stadium is being offered as a viable venue for an expansion club. FIU officials would even be open to allowing the new franchise to play at the stadium gratis.

"I basically told Major League Soccer that we'd do whatever it takes to get them here, even if we have to give them free rent," FIU Athletic Director Pete Garcia told the Miami Herald. MLS has expressed interest in the FIU site, but the favored option at this point is to work with Miami officials to build a 25,000-seat soccer specific stadium on the current site of the legendary Orange Bowl.

The Columbus Crew have said goodbye to arguably their best
defender. Chilean defender Marcos Gonzalez was sold to Chile's Catolica for an undisclosed transfer fee.

"To be honest, it was not a difficult decision to make," Crew general manager Mark McCullers told the Columbus Dispatch. "Catolica was very aggressive with their offer, and it was an offer we thought we needed to take."

......

Jamie Moreno will once again be in a DC uniform in 2008 after signing a contract that could see him retire as a United man.

The league's all-time goal scoring leader will once again don the colors of the 2007 Supporters Shield Winners, however, star playmaker Christian Gomez is on his way out, perhaps to Colorado. Trade discussions are underway, but a deal has yet to be announced.

Pushing the move is the fact that Marcelo Gallardo's deal to join DC United is all but done. He joins a growing Latin contingent in the capital that also recently welcomed keeper José Carvallo, Colombia defender Gonzalo Martinez, forward Franco Niell and defender Gonzalo Peralta to a group that includes MLS MVP Luciano Emilio, key playmaker Fred and Moreno.

......

Former US international Chris Henderson was named technical director of the Seattle expansion franchise late last week. The former US international will be involved in personnel decisions, as well as the planning of the club's proposed training facility.

"It's an opportunity for me to work together with Adrian (Hanauer, club co-owner) for a full year before we even have a team," he told the HeraldNet. "It will be great for us to set things up even before we have the players come in. We'll really be able to get everything in line to run a first-class organization, said Henderson in a statement."

......

Chivas USA defender Lawson Vaughn will miss the first month of the MLS preseason. Vaughn had arthroscopic surgery to remove scar tissue from his ankle.

......

The Los Angeles Galaxy will once again be heading across the Pacific in March. The club has lined up friendlies against Korean side FC Seoul and Chinese second division side East Asia on March 5. The Shanghai Daily is reporting that David Beckham will be restricted to one half in each game as to prevent injury before the MLS season.

......

The Darren Huckerby-to-MLS rumours have picked up again; except this time, the Norwich forward is headed to Toronto FC and not the LA Galaxy.
