In our weekly peek around the league: some come to MLS and some leave, while others wait to get in the game.

......

Talented Argentine playmaker Marcelo Gallardo could be headed for a move to Major League Soccer. "He has already terminated his contract with Paris Saint Germain, and the idea is for him to continue his career in the United States," Gallardo's agent, Juan Berros, told Goal.

The Argentina international has received interest from San Lorenzo, but a move to the States would give Gallardo a more lucrative pay day.

......

Former Nigeria defender Celestine Babayaro could be on the way to join David Beckham and the Los Angeles Galaxy. The former Newcastle player was released in December 2007 and is available on a free transfer. Babayaro does have a Galaxy connection as Los Angeles skipper Ruud Gullit picked up the Nigerian when he was in charge of Chelsea.

The Fire have been active in the final week before training camp begins. The Men in Red dealt veteran defender Jim Curtin to Chivas USA, then acquired the rights to Andy Herron from the Columbus Crew for a fourth round selection in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft. Herron is currently in Costa Rica and there is no certainty that he will return to MLS.

......

The St. Louis Dispatch reported in its Tuesday edition that MLS has delayed selecting a 16th franchise until the 2010 season.

Problem is, in order for a St. Louis stadium to be ready for the start of that season, construction will need to begin by the end of January. Philadelphia is also in the running for the expansion bid, but does not have a stadium plan approved. A decision on which city will get the nod is expected by March.

......

Speculation in the British media that David Beckham could be headed to Newcastle was squashed on Tuesday. Chairman Chris Mort told reporters, "There's no truth Newcastle United are interested in signing David Beckham." Beckham is gearing up for his 100th international cap, which he could receive in February against Switzerland. Also in February, Beckham and the Galaxy will be participating in the Pan Pacific Cup.

......

New England Revolution forward Pat Noonan could be headed to Norway. Soccer America is reporting that Noonan could join former Revolution goalkeeper Adin Brown at Aalesund FK. When contacted by ASD, an AaFK club official would only say the matter might be better discussed later in the week.

......

DC United continue to scour South America for talent as they are on the verge of multiple signings. Steve Goff's Soccer Insider has Peruvian goalkeeper Jose Carvallo arriving in DC later this week, and Colombia defender Gonzalo Martinez is supposed to arrive on the weekend. United have also lined up forward Franco Niell, with an announcement expected soon.

Meanwhile, negotiations continue with playmaker Christian Gomez. If the club and the player cannot agree to terms, a trade would become imminent.

......

The Houston Dynamo will have a tougher time scoring goals in 2008 as forward Joseph Ngwenya has signed with Austrian top division club SK Austria Karnten through the end of the current season in April. The contract also comes up with an option for the 2008/09 season, according to the club.

Ngwenya's contract expired at the end of 2007, but Houston retain his MLS rights if he decides to return.
