The Fire threatened first, with CJ Brown nodding a sixth minute corner on goal, but MLS Defender of the Year Michael Parkhurst was able to safely clear the line.

Taylor Twellman had the next great chance with an agile header in the 17th minute, forcing Fire keeper Matt Pickens to tip over acrobatically.

The Revs striker would not be denied, however, in the 38th minute. The St. Louis native bagged his ninth career playoff goal - and fourth against the Fire - with a bicycle kick on the high bounce.

Twellman could have notched a second just before the break, but he was unable to put Wells Thomson's curling cross on target.

The Fire compelled Reis into making 10 saves, though few were overly troubling.

With seven minutes left, Pickens made a point blank save on Pat Noonan to keep his side in the game, but the Fire would be unable to conjure an equalizer. Late sub Calen Carr Came close with a last gasp header, only to have Reis smother it.
