DC United topped Jamaican foe Harbour View 5-0 in the home leg of their CONCACAF Champions Cup tie on Tuesday night. The capital crew, who got braces from Luciano Emilio and Devon McTavish, will learn their semifinal opponent when Mexican power Pachuca conclude their tie with Honduran side Motagua on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, MLS champs Houston rode a pair of Dwayne De Rosario strikes past Guatemalan side Municipal 3-1 at Robertson Stadium for a two-goal aggregate victory. The Dynamo will now face either Mexico's Atlante or Costa Rican power Saprissa in the final four.

Shavar Thomas has arrived at Chivas USA training camp three weeks after the club expected. The Jamaica defender has been stuck in his native land since December due to work permit issues. His visa expired at the end of 2007 and problems that include a delay in the interview with the US embassy in Jamaica extended the wait. His new permit is valid for a year.

Real Salt Lake has named Bill Manning as its new team's president, effective April 15th. Manning is former general manager of the Tampa Bay Mutiny and arrives from an executive position with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he was in charge of corporate sponsorships and premium seating. The Washington Post had named Manning the MLS Executive of the Year in 2000.

New England has continued to add options to its attack, with Honduras winger Mauricio Castro their latest signing. Steve Nicol also could put him in as a playmaker.

"There is a possibility he could play in the middle," he told the Boston Globe. "I know he has played there for the national team. When I saw him, he played wide and he did a good job out there. He has two good feet and that makes him flexible as to where he can play."

The Columbus Crew are hoping to add an African influence to their midfield in Nigeria Under-23 ace Emmanuel Ekpo. Columbus are hoping a deal can be finished as soon as possible, but the player's club in Nigeria - Enyimba FC - are slowing the transaction in an effort to keep the defensive midfielder.

"All we're waiting for is one final thing from his club," coach Sigi Schmid told the Columbus Dispatch. "We've got the P-1 (visa) and have got his contract done. We're just waiting for the club to sign off on a transfer fee. It's a club that the Nigerian FA has had to step in with and say 'get moving'."

The Crew have also signed Montpellier left back Gina Padula and are continuing their striker search, with Motagua's Jocimar and Racing Club veteran Facundo Sava considered prime targets.

FC Dallas sensation Juan Carlos Toja had been absent from Hoops practice for a few days, but Steve Morrow confirmed to 3rd Degree that it was a personal leave of absence and not any visa concerns.

Also, after welcoming Brazilian midfielder André Rocha, Morrow appears set on his roster. "We're pretty much settled on what we have here," he told 3rd Degree.  "Like I've said before, if there is something out there we think is better than what we have here we'll take a look at it. At this point there's not to may players that want to come on trial."

Soccer by Ives is reporting that former MLS MVP Amado Guevara is in negotiations with MLS in a return to the league to play for Toronto FC. Guevara has had his moments in the past with Toronto FC director of soccer Mo Johnston when both were in New York, so fireworks could soon follow.
