Rangers in Motherwell Share

▪ Heerenveen Fall in Rotterdam

DaMarcus Beasley came on as a substitute in the 55th minute for the injured Jean-Claude Darcheville and quickly became the impetus for a Rangers late penalty conversion by Kris Boyd as the Light Blues left Motherwell with a share of the spoils on Saturday.

The Glasgow side had fallen behind on a majestic sequence of fine soccer displayed by Steelmen midfielder David Clarkson, who threaded an inch perfect pass to Chris Porter that was thumped into the net past keeper Allan McGregor at the 24-minute mark of the first half.

Rangers returned many of the starting unit back to the first team after their 4-0 thumping of East Fife in a CIS Insurance Cup tie in midweek, while Motherwell kept the same eleven that turned away Hibernian at Edinburgh's Easter Road stadium 4-2 last Wednesday.

For the third straight league game, Beasley found a place on the bench while Steven Whittaker and Lee McCulloch manned the right and left wings, respectively, and the American was brought on to inject life into a Rangers side that had looked lifeless in the first half.

The response was a marked improvement in the play of the Light Blues, and when Steelmen defender Keith Lassley clumsily tripped up Beasley in the area in the 67th minute, Boyd coolly slotted home the equalizer.

Rangers now travel to Lyon for a crucial European Champions League tilt on Tuesday before returning home to take on the Scottish Premier League's only unbeaten side, Hibernian, at Ibrox.
