TEXAS SHOWDOWN ENDS GOALLESS
With first place in the West on the line, Houston's five-game winning streak was brought to a halt by intrastate rivals FC Dallas on Saturday evening as the two Texas teams finished without a goal at Pizza Hut Park.

Neither teams attack looking especially potent in the first half, but FC Dallas did get a few chances early. Carlos Ruiz sent a glancing header wide of the near post off of a 10th minute Pablo Ricchetti free kick.

Five minutes later, FC Dallas' Dominic Oduro showed his speed as he broke down the right side of the field, beating a defender to the ball. The native of Ghana pulled up and tried to chip the ball over Zach Wells, but Houston's back-up keeper anticipated well to easily make the save.

In the 38th minute, Houston's Richard Mulrooney sprung Brian Ching with an incisive pass that forced Aaron Pitchkolan to take the Hawaiian striker down, drawing a yellow card in the process. On the ensuing free kick, Brad Davis hit a dipping shot over the wall, but Dario Sala had it covered with a simple two-handed save.

As halftime approached, Dallas would get one more chance to take the lead off a corner kick. The clearance would squirt out to Arturo Alvarez, whose shot from outside the box was easily handled by Wells.

In the 60th minute, Juan Carlos Toja tried a shot with the outside of his left foot after the ball came to him on a corner kick, but his effort spun wide of the near post.

Ten minutes later, Ruiz would have another chance to put FC Dallas ahead after a throw in. The hosts passed the ball along the top of the box and Ruiz tried to put the ball in the top corner, but the shot missed its target wide right.

A minute later, substitute Abe Thompson tried to catch Wells off his line from 30 yards out, but the Houston keeper raced back to catch the ball with ease.

Six minutes from full time, FCD's Alvarez would lose defender Eddie Robinson with a stutter-step move and aim for the far corner, but he couldn't bend the left-footed attempt inside the post.

At the other end of the field, Sala made a game-saving stop as time dwindled. Dwayne De Rosario ran onto a loose ball at the edge of the box, but the Canadian international's shot was turned away by a sliding Sala.

With the two teams picking up a point each, Houston failed to capitalize on an opportunity to move into a tie for first place with Dallas, who maintained their three-point advantage over the Men in Orange.

KAMARA NETS CREW WINNER
The Columbus Crew became the first team to keep Juan Pablo Angel off the scoresheet since mid-May and Kei Kamara provided the second half strike they needed to see off visiting New York on Saturday night.

The game winning youngster was at the heart of the Crew attack early and often. He fired into the side netting from a sharp angle in the sixth minute, then should have done better than to scoop over when capping a 33rd minute one-two with Ned Grabavoy.

It was to be an off night for the Bulls, but Dave van den Bergh had a golden chance to put his side ahead in the 37th minute. A mis-hit Clint Mathis shot rolled into his path near the far post, but the Dutchman missed inches wide.

Just before the break, Grabavoy took a turn misfiring wide from close range after Kamara's header attempt fell at his feet and Jacob Thomas forced a Ronald Waterreus save.

The action heated up six minutes after halftime, with Stefan Miglioranzi testing Waterreus from distance before Will Hesmer raced off his Crew line to smother a Mathis chance.

Kamara then blasted a Grabavoy set-up over in the 58th minute, with Thomas placing a corner kick header into the side netting just after the hour.

Columbus finally had the reward for their domination when Kamara rose high in the 69th minute to nod a bouncer home from substitute Andy Herron's right flank service.

New York perhaps should have equalized moments later when Van den Bergh picked out Angel at the far post, but the Colombia ace could only soft serve his header over the bar.

John Wolyniec squandered the last decent chance for the Red Bulls to pull level by rolling a loose ball shot wide from the top of the area with seven minutes to play.

CLB - Kei Kamara 2 (Andy Herron) 69'

NYRB - Ronald Waterreus; Hunter Freeman (Sinisa Ubiparipovic 86'), Carlos Mendes, Jeff Parke, Kevin Goldthwaite, Dane Richards, Claudio Reyna, Seth Stammler, Dave van den Bergh (Santino Quaranta 79'), Clint Mathis (John Wolyniec 79'), Juan Pablo Angel

CHIVAS DROPS REVS IN SECOND ROUND
Preston Burpo recorded a clean sheet in his first start since September of 2006 and Chivas USA survived a late sending-off of captain Claudio Suarez as they defeated the New England Revolution 2-0 at the Home Depot Center on Saturday night.

In the early stages of the match, it was all Chivas USA. Five minutes in, veteran Jesse Marsch would take the first crack at goal, but his half-volley would be far too high to trouble Revs' keeper Matt Reis.

Two minutes later, Cuban sensation Maykel Galindo would nearly put the Goats ahead when ran down the left side of the field and cut back into the box, leaving Revs defender James Riley in his dust. As Riley recovered, Galindo saw his window closing and launched a shot goalward, just missing to the near side.

The first half hour went by without a shot from the Revolution, but a defensive miscue by Suarez in the 33rd minute nearly led to a New England goal. Andy Dorman stepped in front of a lax pass from El Emperador and quickly unleashed a shot at Burpo, but it spun just wide of the goal.

As play advanced to the other side of the field, Chivas USA pushed back. Galindo again ran past several Revolution defenders, his hard shot from the right side forcing Reis into making his first save of the match in the 34th minute.

Despite controlling the tempo in the first half, Chivas went into the break tied with New England.

In the 51st minute, Ante Razov was left unmarked in the box and Maykel Galindo found him with a perfect cross. All by himself, Razov's header was disappointing, going high and wide to not even trouble Reis.

Two minutes later, it was Adam Cristman's chance to blow an open header. The New England rookie created separation in the box as Pat Noonan crossed the ball to him, but headed the ball straight into the ground and wide of the near post.

In the 60th minute, Chivas would finally break through. Razov pushed the ball up the right side of the field and into the box, where he was surrounded by three New England defenders.

Seeing Jesse Marsch out of the corner of his eye, Razov laid the ball back and Marsch took full advantage of the situation, firing a shot past Matt Reis off the far post and into the goal.

Things turned ugly in the 81st minute when Suarez landed an elbow to the side of Adam Cristman's head, resulting in a red card.

Despite the one-man advantage, New England had a hard time even getting a shot on frame and Galindo made them pay, putting the game away for Chivas in the 89th minute.

El Angelito ran onto a long ball in space, put on the brakes to lose defender Jay Heaps, and fired a perfectly placed shot from the corner of the box into the back of the net, sailing it over Reis but under the crossbar to seal the victory.

By losing, the Revolution wasted a chance to move four points clear of the New York Red Bulls, who lost earlier in the day in Columbus, in the East. Chivas USA, meanwhile, closed the gap in the West, moving to within six points of leaders FC Dallas with the win.

CHV - Jesse Marsch 1 (Ante Razov, Maykel Galindo) 60'
CHV - Maykel Galindo 7 (Orlando Perez) 89'

STRUGGLERS' SHARE IN CHICAGO
The Colorado Rapids were able to break a losing skid, but Sunday points were shared between the visitors and fellow stragglers Chicago.

In the fifth minute, Jacob Petersen was able to find space on the right for a well-placed low cross, but Colin Clark's sliding slot attempt flew over the bar.

The Rapids continued to play neat early combinations, with Jovan Kirovski sending Clark in on the left with a weighted lob, but Fire keeper Matt Pickens calmly collected the rookie's weak shot on goal.

Five minutes before the break, Chad Barrett won a loose ball sprint with Colorado backstop Bouna Coundoul above the area, only to have his breakaway touch run out of play.

Shortly after the break, Niclas Hernandez made his bid, firing wide right and then into a Pickens save in a short span.

The defenses took over offering precious few chances of any consequence until Bakary Soumare was shown red for hard shove on the buzzing Clark.

After Gonzalo Segares compelled an alert Coundoul save from long range, the Rapids failed to capitalize on a wild stoppage time scramble. A Hernandez lob feed pinballed in the area, with Chris Armas eventually knocking an attempted clearance off of his own crossbar.

Line-ups
COL - Bouna Coundoul; Dan Gargan, Facundo Erpen, Ugo Ihemelu, Brandon Prideaux, Terry Cooke (Roberto Brown 71'), Colin Clark, Jovan Kirovski, Pablo Mastroeni (Daniel Wasson 38'), Jacob Peterson, Nicolas Hernandez

DICHIO CLAIMS TFC A ROAD POINT
Toronto FC power forward Danny Dichio netted seconds after halftime to gain the visitors a 1-all share at Kansas City on Sunday.

MLS Rookie of the Year candidate Michael Harrington opened the scoring from the right channel on 18 minutes. Normally an inhabitant of the opposite flank, Harrington ran onto a fine feed from Carlos Marinelli to fire low inside the far post.

Davy Arnaud tried to double on the break moments later, but after gaining the necessary space on the dribble, his lefty effort hooked wide of goal.

Each team was able to get shots off without much trouble, but neither would come closer to scoring than when Kevin Hartman went to the ground to stop a Jeff Cunningham try in the 37th minute.

Just out of intermission, TFC had their equalizer on a clinical header by Dichio. Ronnie O'Brien freed himself for a right flank cross, delivering to the forehead of the big striker for a downward nudge across the line.

Eleven minutes later, Cunningham used his speed to go around a pair of Wizards defenders, but the reigning Golden Boot man drove his shot just beyond the far post. A minute later, O'Brien wiggled into space to fire, but his attempt was easy low pickings for Hartman.

In the 65th minute, second half sub Yura Movsisyan skipped by a defender to race free up the middle, only to pull his 18-meter shot wide.

Toronto defender Andrew Boyens got the gate for a second booking with 14 minutes left, affording the hosts the lion's share of possession the rest of the way.

However, Toronto stand-in keeper Sam Reynolds made back-to-back stops on Marinelli before turning away Ryan Pore on the doorstep. The last chance for a winner went by the board when Andy Welsh could only sting the mitts of Hartman with a stoppage time distance try.

Scoring
KC - Michael Harrington 3 (Carlos Marinelli) 18'
TFC - Danny Dichio 5 (Ronnie O'Brien) 46'

Line-ups
TFC - Sam Reynolds; Andrew Boyens, Jim Brennan, Todd Dunivant, Ronnie O'Brien, Maurice Edu, Chris Pozniak, Carl Robinson, Collin Samuel (Andy Welsh 80'), Jeff Cunningham, Danny Dichio (Marco Reda 80')
