NEW ENGLAND CONTROLS GALAXY

A sell-out crowd of 35,402 packed Gillette Stadium as the David Beckham no-show rolled into New England on Sunday, but it was Taylor Twellman who starred on the field, notching the only goal in the Revs 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Galaxy.

As expected, Beckham did not suit up for the game, as his injured left ankle experienced swelling following the DC United game on Thursday and subsequent flight to New England.

The Galaxy could've used Beckham's services, as it was all Revolution from the opening kickoff. Eight minutes into the match, Pat Noonan served the ball into space behind the Galaxy defense to Taylor Twellman at the back post.

The feed was just a touch too far in front of Twellman, with the US international only able to get his toe to the ball. Still, his weak shot nearly found its way in, bouncing off the outside of the far post before rolling out of play.

Twellman had another crack at goal in the 13th minute when Khano Smith bent the ball for the near post. This time, the forward's snap header missed wide.

It was Twellman again who threatened to score just before the half hour mark. Settling a cross in the box with his chest, the strike star ripped a hard shot from eight feet out. Galaxy defender Ante Jazic rushed over to get a piece of the ball as Cannon dove to his right to make the save.

Struggling to mount anything offensively, Chris Klein unloaded a long range effort just before halftime that got deflected in traffic and whizzed just wide of Matt Reis' far post.

Despite getting an abundance of quality chances in the first half, the Revolution were unable to find the back of the net against the Galaxy.

The teams would exchange chances early in the second half, then Twellman finally broke through in the 55th minute. When Galaxy defender Ty Harden misplayed a clearance in the box, Twellman was there to collect and beat Joe Cannon with a left-footed effort, his ninth goal of the season.

In the 83rd minute, the Galaxy had a chance to equalize when the ball came to Landon Donovan on the doorstep. Unfortunately for Los Angeles, his shot left much to be desired and was, like the Galaxy on the night, soft and easily smothered.

FC DALLAS CLAIM SEESAW WIN
Two goals over the final 10 minutes quickly turned an apparent FC Dallas home loss into a 3-2 victory over Columbus that returned the Texans to the top spot in the West.

The Crew broke the ice after six minutes, and as often is the case, Guillermo Barros Schelotto was the set up man. The former Boca Juniors ace served a tempting corner kick and defender Marcos Gonzalez rose to apply the clinical downward finish.

The hosts started to assert themselves after Arturo Alvarez drew a low save from Crew netminder Will Hesmer midway through the period.

Dax McCarty then picked out Aaron Pitchkolan and Marcelo Saragosa with precise crosses, but neither could find the net.

FC Dallas would finally draw level with an Alvarez goal at the hour, the in-form youngster happening happily onto a deflected cross to boot home.

Columbus regained the lead 14 minutes later after Chris Gbandi body checked Frankie Hejduk down inside the area, with Andy Herron stepping up to bank the spot kick.

With 10 minutes remaining, however, Carlos Ruiz netted a fine equalizing header from a smart Saragosa diagonal lob cross.

The assist maker saw red for throwing a high elbow at Ned Grabavoy, but FCD were able to claim a 10-man victory in added time.

Moments after a good Hesmer save on Dominic Oduro, beanpole defender Clarence Goodson buried McCarty's corner serve for the winner.

RAPIDS SURVIVE ON OWN GOAL
Colorado snapped a 10-game win drought on Saturday night by edging past MLS champs Houston with 10 men on a Dwayne De Rosario own goal.

A midfield battle ruled the first half, with the Rapids able to create slightly more offense. On the stroke of halftime, Jovan Kirovski was teed up for a blast by Terry Cooke, but Dynamo keeper Pat Onstad stood tall.

Colorado moved ahead to stay when De Rosario turned a corner kick into his own net at the hour.

Houston seemed to have an in after Ugo Ihemelu took down Joseph Ngwenya to see red in the 77th minute, but Bouna Coundoul ran his save total up to six during a late flurry to preserve the points.
