UNITED STEAMROLL TORONTO

DC United spoiled Laurent Robert's Toronto FC debut as four different players scored to lead the Screaming Eagles to a 4-1 drubbing in RFK Stadium.

Luciano Emilio and Santino Quaranta scored in the first five minutes, and TFC was forced to play with 10 men after Kevin Harmse was ejected in the 22nd minute as DC toyed with their Canadian guests to bounce back from last Saturday's loss in Kansas City.

Emilio exposed Toronto's defense only 60 seconds into the contest when Bryan Namoff's long header back into the box found its way to the Brazilian's feet. The 2007 Golden Boot winner didn't waste his chance and the ball dribbled into the back of the net as TFC goalkeeper Greg Sutton could only deflect the shot.

United wasted no time showing its ruthlessness in the final third as Quaranta made the advantage two goals to nil in the fifth minute.

Emilio was once again in the middle of the action as his drive from the top of the penalty area hit the underside of the crossbar and eventually fell to Quaranta. The former DC draft pick made no mistake, slotting past Sutton to score his first goal in black since being traded to the LA Galaxy in 2006.

As if things weren't already bad enough for TFC, Harmse was ejected in the 22nd minute after referee Mark Geiger judged his reckless tackle on Gonzalo Peralta to be worthy of a red card. Despite being down a man, Toronto would nearly pull a goal back only a minute later.

Robert's free kick was redirected across the goalmouth by Tyrone Marshall, eventually hitting the crossbar and evading TFC players, but DC dominated the remainder of the half with only Sutton standing in the way of more scoring.

He wouldn't be able to keep United off the board in the second half as Marcelo Gallardo and Jaime Moreno opened their scoring accounts. Gallardo put DC ahead three-nil in the 52nd minute after he latched onto Quaranta's scuffed shot and deposited past a hopeless Sutton.

DC continued to push forward and Moreno, Major League Soccer's all-time leading scorer, added to his career total in the 78th minute. Franco Niell held the ball up in the box and dropped the ball off to Moreno, who applied a flawless finish to Sutton's far post to officially put the game out of reach.

TFC grabbed a meaningless consolation goal in the 88th minute when Maurice Edu skyed to loop a header past Zach Wells.

United is back in action at RFK on Wednesday against Pachuca in the second leg of their CONCACAF Champion's Cup semifinal. Toronto will have a week to nurse its wounds, traveling to Los Angeles next Sunday to face David Beckham and the Galaxy.

CHIVAS LICKS SALT LAKE
Chivas USA won their home opener against Real Salt Lake at The Home Depot Center on Saturday night. Chivas is now 6-1-0 all-time against Salt Lake.

Chivas controlled the ball early on earned a free kick in the eight minute when recently acquired Dema Kovalenko fouled Francisco Mendoza from behind. Jesse Marsch's kick found Jim Curtin whose header went right to the Salt Lake keeper Nick Rimando.

US international Sacha Kljestan could have put Chivas ahead in the 22nd minute but his shot from the top of the penalty area went way over the crossbar. Maykel Galindo had a chance shortly after from about 15 yards out, but Rimando made a good save.

A Chivas counterattack produced the first goal of the match in the 32nd minute. Mendoza took the ball down to midfield and got it to Galindo, who went down field and fed a ball into the penalty area to Kljestan. The USMNT prodigy ran onto the ball and put it past the keeper for a 1-0 lead to Chivas.

Real Salt Lake's Kenny Deuchar, who was recently signed from Scottish club Gretna, should have equalized minutes later. The Scottish striker's shot from inside the six-yard box went over the bar with only the keeper to beat.

Chivas' lead doubled in the 55th minute thanks to Atiba Harris. Mendoza got the ball into the penalty area and found Kljestan on the right side of the area. He centered to Harris, who scored from close range.

Salt Lake took one back in the 57th minute when Deuchar headed a Javier Morales free kick past Chivas keeper Brad Guzan.

Guzan made a great save in the 62nd minute to hold onto the 2-1 lead. Salt Lake's Yura Movsisyan headed a bouncing ball towards the goal and Guzan dove backwards to parry it away after being off his line.

Alecko Eskandarian scored in stoppage time to make it 3-1 when he beat the keeper to ball that was about 30 yards out and then easily dribbled it to the goal before happily smashing it in.

Chivas is now 1-1-0 while Salt Lake is now 0-1-1. Chivas travel to Columbus on Saturday, the same day Real Salt Lake host DC United.

TWO EARLY GOALS LIFT NY OVER COLUMBUS
New York won their home opener over the Columbus Crew thanks to Dave van den Bergh scoring the fastest goal in the club's history and Kevin Goldthwaite, who doubled the lead only seven minutes later.

New York was without star forward Jozy Altidore, who hurt his knee in practice on Thursday.

Siniša Ubiparipović took the ball from Guillermo Barros Schelotto in midfield and got it to Van den Bergh, whose left-footed shot from 22 yards was almost saved by a diving Will Hesmer, but the keeper could not stop the ball from going in.

By scoring only 46 seconds in, Van den Bergh beats Altidore's goal against Chicago last year that took 55 seconds.

Van den Bergh then set up the second goal when his corner found Juan Pablo Ángel at the far post. The Colombian striker saved the ball from going out of bounds and fed defender Kevin Goldthwaite, who pushed the ball past Hesmer for a 2-0 lead.

Colombian striker Oscar Echeverry was just recently signed and made his debut for New York. He was taken down by midfielder Danny O'Rourke in the penalty box in the 51st minute and a penalty was awarded. Hesmer saved a penalty last week against Toronto and did it again, this time stopping Ángel's kick to his right.

Columbus, however, never really worried New York keeper Jon Conway. Red Bull defender Jeff Parke received a second yellow card for a tackle on Frankie Hejduk in the 81st minute, so New York had to finish with 10 men.

New York is now 1-0-0, while Columbus is 1-0-1. New York now plays at DC Dallas and Columbus hosts Chivas USA, both on Saturday.

DALLAS AND HOUSTON TIE IN SIX GOAL THRILLER
Texas rivals FC Dallas and the Houston Dynamo drew 3-3 on Sunday afternoon at Robertson Stadium in a high-scoring affair.

New signing Franco Caraccio scored his first MLS goal in the 21st minute to give Houston the 1-0 lead. Richard Mulrooney got it to Dwayne De Rosario on the right side and he put in a cross for Corey Ashe. The youngster then found Caraccio, whose header bounced by keeper Darío Sala.

Houston keeper Pat Onstad had to be replaced by Tony Caig in the 28th minute after the Canada international collided with Blake Wagner, hurting his shoulder.

Dallas' Kenny Cooper then scored back-to-back goals to give his team a 2-1 lead. In the 35th minute, he got a pass from André Rocha and chipped a shot over Caig.

Then, in the 45th minute, Juan Toja fed it to Cooper at the top of the penalty area and the forward fired a quick shot quickly that deflected in off Caig.

The Dynamo equalized in the 57th minute when Geoff Cameron's ball for Brian Ching bounced off a sliding Drew Moor and into the net for an own goal.

Dallas regained the lead less than a minute later when Pablo Ricchetti found Arturo Alvarez, who blasted a shot past Caig.

Dallas could not hold on to their 3-2 lead and Houston equalized in the first minute of stoppage time. Cameron got the ball from Ching and his shot flew just under the crossbar.

Houston is now 5-1-0 all time against Dallas at Robertson Stadium in league matches.
