Following a successful medical last week, the 33-year old has penned a two-year deal with the Premier League strugglers for an undisclosed fee.

The Californian, who made a brief cameo for Fulham at the end of the 2001/02 Premier League season, reunites with his former Preston coach Billy Davies, under whom Lewis was a regular starter at Deepdale. Together, they reached the Championship playoff final in 2004/05.

Compatriot Benny Feilhaber, meanwhile, expressed himself delighted with his new surroundings, despite watching his teammates collapse 4-0 at Tottenham on Saturday. The UCLA product also admitted he is happy to play in any of the Rams' midfield positions.

"It's great to be here," said Feilhaber. "I was thrilled to be on the bench today, and despite the result, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. This is a dream come true."

Derby sit 19th in the Premier League, with one point from three games.
