Though the home side got on the board courtesy a Scott Sealy strike just before halftime, DC knotted the game minutes into the second half when Christian Gomez found the back of the net, forcing the clubs to settle for a share of the points.

Kansas City would be forced to go without their captain, defender Jimmy Conrad, as well as Davy Arnaud in the match, as both sat out this game after picking up red cards against the Los Angeles Galaxy last Sunday.

DC United was also missing key players as Fred was unavailable due to a groin strain and Jaime Moreno started the game on the bench.

In the first minute of play, Gomez had a prime opportunity to score from close-range, but Kansas City keeper Kevin Hartman was able to get his hand to the ball to record his 1,000 career save.

Hartman remained active in the first 45 minutes, turning away a pair of Devon McTavish shots, as well as a Marc Burch effort later in the half to keep the game scoreless.

Seconds before halftime, Kerry Zavagnin sprung Eddie Johnson through the DC backline with a 40-yard pass on the ground. As Johnson entered the box, he stopped and turned to shield the ball, passing back to an onrushing Sealy. The Trinidad & Tobago international wasted no time in putting a shot on frame, beating Troy Perkins at the far post from 20 yards out to give the home team a lead going into the break.

Eleven minutes into the second half, DC United would equalize via a Gomez strike. The reigning MLS MVP's blast from just inside the box got by defender Tyson Wahl and eluded KC netminder Hartman at the near post to level the score.

Neither team was able to muster a serious scoring chance after the tying goal, setting for a 1-1 draw to add a single point to both teams' totals.

DC United has moved five points clear of the New England Revolution in the race for the Supporter's Shield, with two games remaining in the regular season (both at home, vs. Chicago and Columbus).

Kansas City still has not wrapped up a postseason birth, moving to 37 points on the night, four ahead of eighth place Chicago and six clear of ninth place Columbus. Their season concludes with a pair of road matches, with Curt Onalfo's club heading into New York and Dallas in hopes of locking up a playoff spot.
