Kansas City Wizards newcomers Claudio Lopez and Ivan Trujillo are feeling comfortable in their new surroundings, which could spell trouble for the rest of the league this season.

After leading the team to a 2-0 victory over DC United their first time partnering in attack, Lopez said he has been surprised by the level of understanding he had found with his new teammates since signing on March 10th.

The Wizards boast one of the largest Argentine contingents in the league, behind only Real Salt Lake. Three players hail from the land of the Tango, with Carlos Marinelli and Eloy Colombano helping El Piojo adjust to life in the United States.

"I think its always great when you can relate with the guys around you," Lopez told reporters. "It looks like we have chemistry, but not just with them. I think that with the entire team the chemistry has come along a lot faster than we thought."

For his part, Trujillo said it hasn't been an easy transition from Columbia to the Midwest, but he expects to continue improving as he becomes more comfortable with coach Curt Onalfo and his teammates.

"Its always been very difficult," he told reporters. "Especially the weather, that's probably the biggest."

"I'm just learning from my teammates and getting to know their style of play. Every game will be very important and it will help me establish myself more and I'll be able to contribute more to the team."

The former La Equidad and Deportivo Cali player has already made his mark alongside Lopez, scoring in his first Major League Soccer appearance. Trujillo said he has benefited from playing with the Argentine legend since they both signed in early March.

"Claudio is a very quick player," Trujillo told reporters. "I'm more of a technical kind of guy. I think that the last couple weeks, just in training, we've been able to play off each other."

"Our chemistry is really good. I am very happy and very thankful to be playing with him. I'm learning a lot from him, and game to game our understanding of each other is getting better."

If their start is any indication, the duo could enjoy a fruitful first season in blue, but Lopez said he isn't taking anything for granted. After experiencing such immediate success, Lopez was asked how the competition in MLS compared to his stops in Argentina, Spain, Italy and Mexico.

"I think every country has their own special touch, their own special flavor," he told reporters. "I think the MLS has its own special flavor, so to compare them, its a little difficult."

Though the victory was the ideal beginning to the South American tandem's partnership, Onalfo said the starting eleven is by no means set in stone. Scott Sealy is pushing for minutes next to Lopez, and rookie Chance Myers was forced to miss the victory over United with a foot strain. Veteran midfielders Davy Arnaud and Sasha Victorine are also injured.

"I expect for the next five games for us to get better as a group," Onalfo told ASD. "Our starting lineup is not solidified by any means. There is going to be great competition between Scott Sealy and Ivan Trujillo for that spot next to Lopez. That's the important thing. When you have great competition, it makes everyone better."

Onalfo will have to decide who will partner El Piojo when Kansas City faces former Wizard Jose Burciaga Jr. and the Colorado Rapids Saturday afternoon at Community America Ballpark (4:00 pm CT on Direct Kick). Both squads enter the match 1-0-0 after posting shutouts last Saturday.

The game will be the second of four consecutive home games to start the season, followed by a brutal six-game road, trip during which Kansas City won't play at home for nearly two months.
