TOP Oss have reached a purple patch after a rough start to the campaign, thanks in no small part to an offensive boost from right back Charles Kazlauskas.

The American scored three goals in November and has increasingly been active in setting scoring chances for his teammates. The extra contributions have proved to be useful, with the southerners only losing one of their last six contests.

The final match of last month saw Kazlauskas net twice in a 4-4 draw against FC Emmen, including a spectacular individual effort to open. The #2 shirt collected a long ball over the top, deked a defender along the top of the area and curled home a picturesque shot inside the far post with his weaker left foot.

The strike was so attractive, national commentators on RTL7 went so far as to invoke the name of Dutch icon Dennis Bergkamp during the highlight reel - an episode that provoked some flattered laughter from the TOP star.

"I heard that," Kazlauskas informed American Soccer Daily. "At first, I didn't really pay attention, but then they said something about comparing my goal to Bergkamp."

Chuckled the Wisconsin native: "It's a little early to start comparing me to him!"

"Actually, I was going to shoot with my right foot, but the ball took a weird bounce and I had the space to the middle. When you hit one like that, you just put your hands in the air... I guess kinda like Dennis Bergkamp!"

"I've only scored like six goals with TOP, so it's always special when it happens."

As for his growing impact in attack, Kazlauskas chalks it up to the freedom he's given to roam the right side by the manager.

"It's down to how we're playing, and how Hans de Koning sets things up," he offered.

While the 25-year old sees the team finally headed on the right track, he was quick to downplay talks of them winning a period title to claim their second promotion playoff berth in three seasons.

"We've kind of gotten into the flow," stated Kazlauskas. "It's something we need to continue and build on."

"We need to avoid injuries and suspensions, get some help from here and there. A lot of things have to go your way for a small team like TOP."
