The 25-year old received 413 balloting points, easily outdistancing Everton keeper Tim Howard (122) and Fulham backline marshal Carlos Bocanegra (105).

"It certainly is a great honor," Donovan told reporters. "We can’t forget that soccer is a team sport, and I am very proud of the team’s performance this year, particularly in defending the Gold Cup title."

Thus far in 2007, Donovan has notched nine goals and four assists for a US Soccer record 22 points.
