Hill Hoping for Clarity

The club's roster might be stocked full of summer imports, the likes of Josué, Ricardo Costa and Jan Simunik, but seemingly forgotten American attacker Kamani Hill is looking to the positives as his Wolfsburg career continues to be shrouded in uncertainty.

Having himself only arrived last January, the former UCLA standout had just begun to crack the first team when a management shift brought in former Bayern Munich maestro Felix Magath, and a new era of spending. From the opening of the summer transfer window, 16 new faces set signatures on contracts as VfL blazed club record cash splashing with an eye towards European play.

For Hill, the flurry of activity and added depth has raised new barriers to the hope of collecting minutes on the field.

Of the horde incorporated into Magath's new-look side, two new strikers highlight the added competition for the Berkeley native in the form of Bosnia hotshot Edin Dzenko and erstwhile Energie Cottbus attacker Sergie Radu.

"It's hard (to not be playing), but my situation is unique in a way," Hill described to American Soccer Daily.

"Our club didn't just bring in a new trainer, but (he is also the general) manager, and he got unlimited spending power to buy players."

"I'm training with the first team, but I still need to get some details sorted out. I don't even think that I'm allowed to play with the second team."

Despite the letdown of having yet to tally a minute of Bundesliga play this season, the US international is looking to his appearances for the National Team as a means of relief. The 21-year old donned the Stars and Stripes for only the second time against Sweden in Göteborg.

"I'm really happy about that," he said of the August 22nd match. "It's good for me, good to have something positive happen when I'm not playing (for my club). It kind of balances it out a bit."

Hill will next be looking to Saturday's outing in the nation's capital against Hertha with eager eyes for a chance.
