96ers Rude 'Gers Friendly Hosts

Seemingly forgotten American fullback Steve Cherundolo and Hannover 96 took pride in a 1-0 Tuesday night victory over Scottish side Rangers, fronting a still freshly signed DaMarcus Beasley.

With the start of both the German Bundesliga and Scottish Premier League inching closer, both clubs fielded strong line-ups with an eye to tweaking the set and building confidence. As a result, 90-minute right back Cherundolo got a chance to square off against his compatriot winger, as Beasley started for a 46-minute show.

Cherundolo made an early rally tackle on Beasley after being turned bu his US teammate, then resorted to a rougher takedown on a later drive by the speedster.

The home side found itself up through Sergio Pinto, when the midfielder's off-center header took a lucky deflection in off of former Stanford defender David Weir in the 51st minute.

"I thought we defended well," Beasley told reporters. "We didn't give them many chances. I thought it was pretty even before they scored."
