The Colorado Rapids were delighted to announce the acquisition of DC United playmaker Christian Gomez in exchange for a 2009 first round SuperDraft pick on Friday.

Since arriving in the capital in 2004, no league player has more points than the 33-year old Buenos Aires native, who has scored Best XI honors for three straight seasons.

"Christian is one of the biggest signings in the 13-year history of the Colorado Rapids," Rapids director Jeff Plush told MLSNet "When combined with Pablo Mastroeni, he gives us one of the best center midfield duos in the league."

Gomez appeared for United 97 times, ringing up 39 goals and 29 assists. He an won an MLS championship in 2004 and was named league MVP in 2006.
