Gregg Berhalter converted a late penalty to earn 2.Bundesliga pacesetters 1860 Munich a 1-1 share with visiting Cologne on Friday, while Steve Cherundolo and Hannover topped Bochum on Saturday.

HANNOVER END BOCHUM CURSE
Iranian attacker Vahid Hashemian's 77th minute match winner ensured Hannover 96 a solid win 3-2 over VfL Bochum, a side that had won each of the past three encounters between the two.

For American Steve Cherundolo, it was another full shift at his customary right back berth. Sal Zizzo, on the other hand, did not take part in the affair.

Summer buy Mike Hanke opened the scoring in the 11th minute, rounding off well after a smart give and go play with Hanno Balitsch.

Hannover continued to look the more dangerous and dominant side, and in the 36th minute, turned possession into product through the clever work of Jan Rosenthal, who grabbed his first goal of the campaign.

Firmly in command at 2-0, Die Roten allowed the visitors back into the game just before the halftime whistle, with keeper and captain Robert Enke failing to get a parried ball out of danger and an eager Tommy Bechmann waiting to pounce for the 2-1.

In the 66th minute, Hannover would concede a penalty as Chavdar Yankov halted Stanislaw Sestak's clear run on goal illegally, with Marcel Maltritz stepping up from the spot to level the match at two apiece.

The hosts, however, would come good through Hashemian's header as the substitute made one of his first touches of the ball the most decisive of the match to give the Reds a hard-fought victory.

A week from Saturday, Hannover travels to Nürnberg.

BERHALTER SALVAGES 1860 POINT
While Bayern Munich might have been making the biggest waves for the Bavarian city, topping the Bundesliga table, the city's oft-overlooked sleeping giant 1860 has been following suit in the league below. With pole position on the line, Die Löwen came from behind against FC Köln to claim a valuable point in a 1-1 draw on Friday evening.

In the 17th minute, Nemanja Vucicevic narrowly missed for the visitors against his former club, while the hosts failed to muster much at the other end.

After frustrating starts up top, both sides reshuffled after the break to try and generate new impetus in front of goal, with Milivoje Nokavic coming on for visitors and American Josh Wolff making way for Fabian Johnson in the 54th minute.

The substitutions began to bear fruit in the 67th minute as Novakovic worked his way into the box to drift his effort in off the underside of the crossbar for the 1-0 to Köln.

With the game drawing near to its close, Berkant Göktan tried to bring the hosts back into the fray, finding no relief with the posts and assured arms of FCK keeper Fayrid Mondragon.

Just moments later, the Lions would receive a penalty after Cologne defender Youssef Mohamad was adjudged to have hacked away at substitute Timo Gebhart, with American defender Gregg Berhalter keeping his composure to slot away from the spot.

With just minutes remaining, both teams reconstructed their defensive walls to hold on for a scrappy point share that kept Munich at table's top and fifth place FCK not far behind.

Next week, 1860 travels to recent Bundesliga dropouts Alemannia Aachen.

LAST MINUTE PAIN FOR PAULI
Despite taking an early lead through attacking midfielder Marvin Braun, the Anarchists slumped to a late 2-1 loss away to Greuther Fürth.

American left back Ian Joy started at the back to rack up his first 90 minutes of 2.Bundesliga action on the season.

In the 11th minute, striker Filip Trojan laid the ball off for Braun, who made no mistake in converting attack to points on the board for the 1-0. With an air of confidence, the visitors continued to hold on to their advantage until Fürth midfielder Martin Lanig made inroads against the run of play.

In the 43rd minute, the midfielder slalomed past Pauli pass master Thomas Meggle, before nutmegging Fabian Boll to set himself up room for an equalizing 17-yard drive.

After the break, both teams schemed for another opening, but none looked to present themselves. With just seconds left of stoppage time, however, the hosts carved a late match winner.

Stefan Reisinger found himself the recipient of usually solid Pauli Keeper Patrick Borger's mis-read catch, and coolly slotted the unexpected gift into the back of the net for a shock win.

Next on the agenda for St. Pauli is a September 14th home clash with Kickers Offenbach.

MAINZ RACK UP ANOTHER WIN
Manager Jürgen Klopp has maneuvered FSV Mainz to within one point of the summit thanks to a 2-1 triumph over Carl Zeiss Jena.

For Bosnian/Serb-American central defender Neven Subotic, it was yet another run out for the full 90 minutes as the 18-year old continues to rack up 2.Bundesliga experience.

Markus Feulner broke the deadlock for visiting Mainz in the 17th minute, after cleverly being played in by Chadli Amri.

A goal to the good, Mainz began to build pressure over their league opponents, and could've been ahead if not for a sharp Kasper Jensen guarding the Jena goal.

In the 33rd minute, the hosts finally mustered an effort on goal through Robert Müller, but Jena would have to wait until the second half to level the score.

Darlington Omodiagbe rose to meet Tobias Werner's corner in the 54th minute to pull Mainz back.

With 13 minutes remaining, Daniel Gunkel reaffirmed his side's desire for a win, sending in a free kick that amazingly missed its onrushing targets and found a resting place in the comfort of the net.

Despite Jena throwing everything down for an equalizer, Mainz held firm and true at the back to give Klopp his three points.

Jena hosts Josh Grenier's Koblenz a week from Friday.
