HANNOVER CONCEDE LATE EQUALIZER
Mike Hanke's double gave Hannover 96 a comfortable lead before halftime, but it was not enough as FC Nürnberg salvaged a late 2-2 draw on Saturday at the easyCredit Stadium.

Fresh off the back of an international tour for the US against Brazil, fullback Steve Cherundolo put in a full shift at the back for Die Roten.

Marek Mintal almost put the hosts up in the 10th minute, but failed to hold his composure with only Hannover keeper Robert Enke left to beat.

Just two minutes later, Hanke would find some composure of his own to head the Reds into the lead from Szabolcs Huszti's lofted corner. The former Schalke player would add a headed touch for his second of the match, and fourth of the campaign, in the 39th minute.

Boasting a two-goal cushion, complacency crept into the Hannover camp, with ex-Ajax ace Angelos Charisteas almost pulling Nürnberg back with his shot five minutes before the halftime break.

The hosts continued to pressure for a way back in, finally finding such a route in the 60th minute. Bosnian midfielder Zvjezdan Misimovic left Enke helpless through his 15-yard blast, bringing FCN back into the running at 2-1.

With the game seemingly done and dusted, the hosts would unlock the defense for the 2-2 through Marek Mintal's handiwork in the box, after Thomas Kleine sent his header straight onto the Slovakian's lap from five yards out.

Cherundolo and Hannover next welcome Bayer Leverkusen to the AWD Arena for a Sunday clash.

HANSA STILL POINTLESS
Fighting to claw out of the bottom, Heath Pearce and Hansa Rostock battled but found no solace in a 4-2 defeat to Arminia Bielefeld.

Coming back from US duty, Pearce returned with more than just a boost of confidence as he re-assumed his starting berth on the left.

Jorg Böhme put the hosts up in the 31st minute from a free-kick.

Shortly after the break, Enrico Kern's bit of magic set Hansa back on level terms. However, the hosts wasted little time in exposing the frailties of a team lacking form, retaking the lead through Christian Eigler in the 50th.

The Nürnberg youth product doubled his tally for the afternoon just five minutes later after finding himself one-on-one with the keeper.

Goals seeming to come with great ease, Bielefeld's Poland international Artur Wichniarek set the score a 4-1 just four minutes later, taking advantage of a sloppy possession play.

Promising 21-year old Hansa midfielder Kai Bülow would strike to give Die Kogge some consolation in the 62nd minute, but it was too little too late.

Next weekend, Hansa host Duisburg on Saturday.

MAINZ CONJURE LATE DRAW
Having scored 10 goals in the opening four games of the season, Jürgen Klopp's Mainz presented a quiet performance to a 1-1 draw against South German side SC Freiburg.

Despite myriad chances to impact the scoreline throughout the 90 minutes of regulation time, the final tacked on moments proved to be the most decisive.

For former US youth international Neven Subotic, it was a full game of experience to add to the list, as the young defender continues to grow into his newfound starting role at the back.

Holding strong at the back, the Mainz defense was caught ball-watching in the 34th, with striker Karim Matmour almost putting the visitors up a goal to the good, but for the steady hands of keeper Christian Wetklo. At the other end, defender Felix Borja directed his header just wide of the post in the 49th minute.

With the time wound down to the 90th minute, the visitors would jump start a dramatic closing to the game. Henrik Bencik pounced on Subotic's failed header clearance to push the ball over the line for a late 1-0 lead.

However, even before the celebrations halted, and with fans still pounding their fists in exaltation, Daniel Gunkel's header earned the home side a last gasp equalized, after catching Freiburg off balance from a corner.

Klopp's Mainz now make the trip to Offenbach for a clash with Kickers on Sunday.

Scoring
FRE - Henrik Bancik 1 90'
MNZ - Daniel Gunkel 4 (Miroslav Karhan) 90+2'

LIONS TAMED BY AACHEN
After a 3-0 loss to Wehen, before the international break, 1860 Munich traveled to Alemannia Aachen looking to rekindle a blistering early season form, but found a scoreless stalemate instead.

Having tested his national team batteries with a workman's performance against Brazil, US forward Josh Wolff played out the full game in his familiar goal-creator role for Die Löwen. Meanwhile, compatriot Gregg Berhalter held firm at the back to protect and serve the clean sheet.

1860 keeper Michael Hoffman strained to get a finger to Czech striker Lubos Pecka's drilled 30th minute volley, the ball just fizzling just over the bar.

The Lions had a chance of their own just seven minutes later as Antonio di Salvo got on the end of Wolff's slightly delayed ball, but he could not deliver the fatal blow.

While Pecka would try to carve three points from the game again, it was not to be, and both teams held on for a scoreless result.

Next, the Lions welcome Ian Joy's St. Pauli to the den on Friday.

Line-ups
AA - Stephan Straub; Mirko Casper (Jerome Polenz 46'), Alexander Klitzpera, Peka Lagerblom, Jeffrey Leiwakabessy, Matthias Lehmann, Christian Fiel, Laurentiu Reghecampf, Lubos Pecka (Patrick Milchraum 75'), Todor Kolev, Marius Ebbers (Sizlard Nemeth 67')

1860 - Michael Hofmann; Markus Thorandt, Mate Ghvinianidze, Gregg Berhalter, Torben Hoffmann, Danny Schwarz, Lars Bender (Sven Bender 82'), Josh Wolff, Berkant Göktan, Daniel Bierofka (Fabian Johnson 74'), Antonio di Salvo

ON THE SIDELINE
Ian Joy was an unused substitute in St. Pauli's 3-1 win over Emden Kickers.

Joe Enochs failed to make it off the bench as Osnabrück sank to a 3-1 defeat at Hoffenheim.

Injury continues to sideline Josh Grenier as he missed out yet again while Koblenz claimed a 2-1 win over Carl Zeiss Jena.
