10-MAN REDS TOP FRANKFURT
Steve Cherundolo played his usual part at right back for Hannover in their 2-1 rally win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday.

Hannover 96 celebrated its 112th anniversary this weekend and old is exactly how Hannover's back four looked when Frankfurt's Marco Russ scored the first goal of the evening after Die Roten were not able to clear a Junichi Inamoto corner kick.

Frankfurt clearly was the better side until the 35th minute when Hannover's Sergio Pinto scored on a fine individual effort.

In the second half of the game, both teams went for the win. Frankfurt created several chances, but were denied by Robert Enke. Hannover also missed out on several well-created opportunities, and in minute 61, things took a different turn when Pinto brutally took out Faton Toski at the halfway line and was sent off.

Frankfurt, though, was not able to make the best of their man advantage. If anything, Hannover had the better of the play.

With just a minute to go, the Reds set up one last counterattack. Vahid Hashemian drew the attention of three Frankfurt defensemen and sent the ball through to Christian Schulz, who fired past Frankfurt keeper Markus Pröll for the win.

The 96'ers hit the road for Dortmund on Wednesday.

Scoring
EF - Marco Russ 3 27'
H96 - Sergio Pinto 3 35'

HANSA LEAVE IT LATE
Heath Pearce helped Hansa Rostock to secure three pivotal points in their battle to avoid relegation in a 2-1 win against Karlsruhe on Saturday.

Karlsruhe took the initiative right from the beginning. Alexander Iashvili missed out on a very good chance two minutes into the game, as did Christian Eichner nine minutes later. His shot was saved by Stefan Wächter, and if it had not been for the keeper, Rostock would have trailed dramatically at this point.

But some teams need many chances to produce nothing and some just need one to gain the lead. After a Tim Sebastian clearance, it was Enrico Kern who flicked the ball to Fin Bartels.
The Hansa striker shook off Karlsruhe defender Mario Eggimann and tipped the ball into the net for the 1-0 Hansa lead.

Karlsruhe were shocked and did not create any more chances until the halftime whistle, while Rostock did not have to.

After the break, Rostock and Karlsruhe seemed to have reversed roles. Hansa caught Karlsruhe on numerous breaks, but did not score.

This time, it was Karlsruhe that hit out of nowhere. Joshua Kennedy was left the time to cross to Sebastian Freis, whose strike proved too good for Wächter.

Oddly enough, from that point on, the visitors were still looking the stronger side. Playing with a more direct style of play than Die Badener, Rostock were looking to get down the sides of Karlsruhe's defense on a more regular basis.

Hansa were rewarded for their efforts after Djordjije Cetkovic back-heeled the ball to Heath Pearce on a break. The US international turned and layed off for the trailing Fin Bartels, who chipped the ball into the net with five minutes to go in the game.

Karlsruhe were not able to find an answer to Hansa's go-ahead goal and that sealed the deal.

Hansa's streak of seven winless games is finally forgotten and they will try to get a positive run going when they play Werder Bremen on Tuesday at DKB-Arena.

MAINZ SUFFER AUGSBURG SETBACK
Neven Subotić's strong performance at center back was just not good enough as Mainz 05 lost 2-1 to Augsburg on Friday.

Nothing much happened in Augsburg until Daniel Gunkel sent Srdjan Baljak deep on a free kick in minute 11. The Mainz striker lobbed the ball over Augsburg netminder Seven Neuhaus and into the net.

The Mainz lead did not last long, though. Patrick Mölzl's superb low pass to Imre Szabics had a large share in securing the equalizer for Augsburg 10 minutes after the opener.

To make matters worse, Augsburg eventually turned the match on its ear, when in minute 64, Roland Benschneider nodded home a Lars Müller cross.

Augsburg now tried to hit their opponent on the break. Mainz, on the other hand, did not find an answer to Augsburg's defensive mindset and had to throw in their hand.

Mainz 05 will face Paderborn on Tuesday at Bruchweg-Stadion.

AUG - Imre Szabics 3 (Patrick Mölzl) 21'

VIOLETS MOVE CLOSER TO SAFETY
Joseph Enochs and his team claimed vital points and now seem bound for a second year in Germany's Zweite Bundesliga.

It took both team 21 minutes to realize that one has to score goals in order to win, when Koblenz' Sascha Traut hit the side netting of Tino Berbig's goal.

Das Veilchen took the lead in minute 33 courtesy of a questionable penalty kick. Pierre de Wit converted after Koblenz keeper Dennis Eilhoff was able to save the initial effort.

Spectators at osnatel Arena finally saw their side take the offensive after the halftime interval. Nico Frommer tried to extend Osnabrück's lead six minutes into the second half, but was denied by Eilhoff.

With 15 minutes to play, it was again Frommer who had the chance to seal the deal, and this time he made use of it. A failed clearance from Koblenz wingback Du-Ri Cha was picked up by the Osnabrück midfielder, whose strike got the better of keeper Eilhoff.

Joe Enochs replaced Thomas Reichenberger with five minutes to go in the game to help secure the shutout win for Osnabrück, while Josh Grenier had to watch from the dugout.

The Violets will take on FC Cologne on Tuesday.

1860 CONTINUE FREEFALL
Gregg Berhalter and 1860 Munich, who played without Josh Wolff, were not able to claim points in a 2-0 loss to Kickers Offenbach on Sunday.

Both teams were in run-and-gun mode right from the kickoff, but it took an own goal to really get things started.

At the half hour mark, it was Fabian Johnson's failed rescue attempt on a Thorsten Judt cross that put Offenbach ahead.

The Lions, however, were everything but shocked and tried to hit Offenbach on the break. Berkant Göktan tried to bring Munich back on level terms, but was foiled at the Kickers' defensive end in a combined effort.

After the changeover, 1860h were looking the stronger side. Two minutes into the second half, it took Cesar Thier every inch of his body to deflect a Daniel Bierofka effort. Offenbach's netminder again saved brilliantly when Lars Bender tried his luck from the edge of the penalty area four minutes later.

To the dismay of Munich's traveling supporters, Offenbach extended their lead in minute 56. Suat Türker's header on another Judt cross proved too much for 1860.

The Lions were on their last legs, not able to come back and Offenbach just ran down the clock.

1860 Munich have now lost four games in a row, but they have the chance to erase that negative run on Thursday when they host SV Wehen/Wiesbaden.

ON THE SIDELINE
Kamani Hill did not get a chance to play as Wolfsburg's match against Nürnberg was rained out and will be replayed later on during the season.

Hertha BSC Berlin, playing without Bryan Arguez, tied VfL Bochum 1-1.

Luis Robles warmed the bench for Kaiserslautern as they carried off a point from Erzgebirge Aue in their scoreless draw on Friday.
