The San Jose Earthquakes will be granted the opportunity to draft 10 new additions from rival league teams in Wednesday's MLS Expansion Draft.

The 14th league franchise, a restart of the previous namesake team that transplanted to Houston in 2005, will need to craft a roster from scratch in time for the 2008 season. As a result, Wednesday's draft will make available a variety of players from each of the league's 13 other teams.

Each club was permitted to protect just 11 players, while Generation Adidas youngsters were restricted from consideration, and only one full senior international per club was allowed to be included on the list of available players.

As soon a player is chosen from a particular club, that respective franchise is further excluded from the draft, thus preventing dramatic player loss.

With the list of available players already known, some big names have been made available for selection. Brazilian playmaker Denílson, who transferred to FC Dallas amidst tremendous hype, has underwhelmed since his late summer arrival and now finds himself up for grabs.

He's joined by DC United staple Brian Carroll, well-traveled Galaxy stopper Abel Xavier and teammate Kyle Martino, hot-tempered Revolution defender Joe Franchino, former San Jose star keeper Pat Onstad of Houston and Red Bulls wing attacker Santino Quaranta.

To help ensure the restart club some reasonable parity, it shall further be granted priority signing of USL prospects, on the opening day of the transfer/signing period.

The MLS Expansion Draft kicks off at 1:00 pm ET on Wednesday.
