American attacker Clint Mathis hopped off the bench in his home debut to fire a last gasp 1-1 equalizer for Ergotelis against visiting Apollon Kalamarias on Saturday night.

The erstwhile MLS ace entered the match with the cellar dwellers down two in the 76th minute to help engineer the rally.

The guests went up eight minutes before the break as Perparim Hetemaj unlocked the defense to tee up Eduardo Brito.

The Red-Blacks doubled their lead 10 minutes after intermission, with Giorgos Barkoglou netting his first of the season after a combo worked with Hetemaj.

Giorgos Vakouftis put Ergotelis back in it by depositing an indirect free kick with eight minutes to go, setting up the Mathis heroics.

As time drained away from what seemed to be another loss for the Canaries, the former US international sang a beautiful tune to rescue a share. Mathis applied a stinging left-footed volley to the weak clearance of his own lob entry feed with mere seconds remaining in the game.

Still five points from a safety place, the club now must get prepared for a Saturday trip to Greek power Olympiakos.
