GAFFE GIFTS BLACKBURN A POINT
Goalkeeper errors by two of the best in the Premiership gifted each side  goals as Arsenal and Blackburn fought to a 1-1 draw.

Brad Friedel had an altogether solid game aside from his 18th minute mistake, where he failed to handle a Gael Clichy cross, allowing Robin van Persie to strike easily from close range.

From then on it was an intensely physical game, marked by an full-on David Bentley body tackle on Van Persie, after which seven other bookings ensued.

Despite Blackburn's mettle, Arsenal had two other quality chances before halftime, but neither Theo Walcott nor Mathieu Flamini could finish their chances.

The second half was dominated by Rovers, who got their reward in the 72nd minute when Jens Lehmann allowed David Dunn's 25-yard strike to slip right through his fingers.

Blackburn managed to hold on for the last 18 minutes, despite playing 10 of those without defender Ryan Nelsen after the former DC United defender was sent off.

ARS - Robin van Persie 2 18'
BLA - David Dunn 1 72'

ROYALS CRASH EVERTON START
Marcus Hahnemann kept a clean sheet and thus was victorious in the battle of American goalkeepers, with Reading prevailing 1-0 over the visiting Everton.

The good news was twofold for Americans as Bobby Convey made his return with an 11-minute sub shift.

Stephen Hunt was the hero for Reading, slotting the ball past Tim Howard just before halftime. In truth, there was little Howard could do on what Everton boss David Moyes described as a 'schoolboy goal'.

The Everton defense more or less fell asleep during Ulises De la Cruz's long throw-in, which Hunt chested down in the penalty area before eased through a line of Everton defenders to finish past the helpless Howard.

Everton's attempt to level the scores in the second half were thwarted by a series of important stops from Hahnemann, whose most important came in denying Mikel Arteta from point blank range.

NOBLE ON THE SPOT FOR WEST HAM
In a turgid match, all West Ham needed was a Mark Noble penalty to ease past Birmingham on Saturday.

Jonathan Spector started and played 86 minutes, earning a yellow card in the process, before being replaced by Daniel Gabbidon.

It was a match where free-flowing play was at a minimum, with a constant barrage of small fouls wrecking the flow and keeping either team from creating many meaningful scoring chances.

Indeed, the closest either team came to scoring was near the end of the first half, when Noble's well-struck free kick hit the base of the post.

However, Noble would get another, easier dead ball chance in the second half after Birmingham keeper Colin Doyle unfairly brought down Craig Bellamy in the box.

The midfielder easily finished the ensuing penalty, giving West ham their first win of the season.

Scoring
WHU - Mark Noble 1 (PK) 70'

Line-ups
BC - Colin Doyle; Stuart Parnaby, Radhi Jaidi, Liam Ridgewell, Stephen Kelly, Sebastian Larsson, Fabrice Muamba (Matthew Sadler 80'), Mehdi Nafti (Cameron Jerome 75'), Olivier Kapo, Garry O'Connor, Mikael Forssell (Gary McSheffrey 65')

COTTAGERS SUFFER TO BORO
Fulham's already troubling start to the season got even worse on Saturday as injuries to Brian McBride and Hameur Bouazza, a costly goalkeeper error and a disallowed goal at the death all found their way into a 2-1 home loss to Middlesbrough.

McBride gave the Cottagers the lead early on in the 16th minute, though the celebrations were short-lived. The American dislocated his knee in the process of scoring, and was replaced by Diomansy Kamara.

Boro looked all out of ideas for the rest of the first half and much of the second until a terrible gaffe by Fulham keeper Tony Warner gifted Mido his first goal in a Middlesbrough uniform.

Clint Dempsey, having subbed into the game for the injured Bouazza, had a golden opportunity to send Fulham ahead soon after, but his try from six yards out somehow missed the target.

Boro responded in the best possible way, as Jermaine Aliadière put a nice through ball in to Lee Cattermole in the Fulham penalty area for a cool finish past Warner.

It was then that the controversy really started as David Healy's shot which clearly crossed the goal line was not counted as a goal, though the linesman had a clear view of the play.

The incident left Fulham boss Lawrie Sanchez outraged as the result leaves Fulham with only three points from their first three games, while their most influential striker faces several months out with a dislocated knee.

Scoring
FUL - Brian McBride 1 (Simon Davies) 16'
BORO - Mido 1 (Julio Arca) 55'
BORO - Lee Cattermole 1 (Jermaine Aliadière) 88'

Line-ups
FUL - Tony Warner; Chris Baird, Zat Knight, Carlos Bocanegra, Paul Konchesky, Simon Davies, Alexei Smertin, Sean Davis (Papa Bouba Diop 90'), Hameur Bouazza (Clint Dempsey 35'), Brian McBride (Diomansy Kamara 20') David Healy

BORO - Mark Schwarzer, Andrew Davies, Sean Wheater, Chris Riggott, Andrew Taylor, Lee Cattermole, Georg Boateng, Julio Arca, Tuncay Sanli (Jermaine Aliadière 46'), Stewart Downing, Mido (Lee 69), Lee Dong-Gook (Seb Hines 90')

WOLVES BLOW WEDNESDAY DOWN
Frank Simek and Sheffield Wednesday suffered an embarrassing 3-1 defeat at the hands of Wolves on Sunday, leaving Wednesday manager Brian Laws in the mood to sign some new defenders.

Wolverhampton were the first to strike with an opportunistic Freddy Eastwood goal, before Wednesday countered with a Wade Small goal off a corner kick on the stroke of halftime.

However, the second half was all Wolves as Michael Knightly scored just three minutes in and substitute Jay Bothroyd added some insurance in the 90th minute.

Scoring
WLV - Freddy Eastwood 14'
WED - Wade Small 45'
WLV - Michael Knightly 48'
WLV - Jay Bothroyd 90'

Line-ups
WED - Grant, Bullen, Wood, Simek, Spurr, Lunt (Hinds 87'), Whelan (O'Brien 76'), Johnson, Small, Jeffers (Clarke 20'), Burton

WLV - Hennessey, Darren Ward, Breen (Collins 33'), Foley, Gray, Olofinjana, Kightly, Potter (Henry 68'), Keogh, Stephen Ward, Eastwood (Bothroyd 87')

HORNETS STING UNITED
Watford's quest for an immediate return to the premiership stayed on track on Saturday with a 1-0 win over fellow droppers Sheffield United.

A deflected strike from Lee Williamson in the 56th minute was all that was needed for the win as United's forwards failed to show any kind of urgency in front of goal.

Jay DeMerit started and went the full 90 for the Hornets, who are now joint top of the Championship table with maximum points from their first two games.

Scoring
WAT - Williamson 56'

Line-ups
WAT - Poom, Doyley, DeMerit, Shittu, Stewart, McAnuff, Mahon, Williamson, Smith (Kabba 79'), King, Henderson

SU - Kenny, Morgan, Kilgallon, Bromby, Armstrong, Stead (Geary 73'), Montgomery, Tonge, Gillespie, Webber (Shelton 78'), Beattie

--------------------------
ON THE SIDELINE
Benny Feilhaber was an unused substitute as Derby County fell 4-0 to Tottenham Hotspur. Eddie Lewis was not in the squad, having just completed his move from Leeds United.

The injured Johann Smith was not in the squad for Bolton's 3-1 loss to Portsmouth.

Cory Gibbs continued his injury recovery, and thus was not involved in Charlton's 2-1 loss to Stoke.

Zak Whitbread was an unused substitute in Millwall's 1-0 win over Cheltenham.
