COTTAGERS NAB FIRST WIN IN 10
Fulham lifted themselves away from the foot of the Premiership table on Saturday with a 3-1 win over Reading at Craven Cottage.

The win is only Fulham's second of the season thus far, but it was enough to push them to mid-table, alongside Reading on 12 points.

For Reading, Marcus Hahnemann started and played the full 90, while Bobby Convey came on as a 76th minute substitute.

ulham, on the other hand, were in the unusual position of having only one American in their squad, with Clint Dempsey starting and playing the full 90 up top. Kasey Keller and Brian McBride are injured, while Carlos Bocanegra sat out a suspension.

The game started slowly, but gradually picked up pace as Reading sat back and Fulham searched for the opening goal.

The Cottagers didn't have to search for long - Simon Davies put the home side ahead with an opportunistic finish after a weak headed clearance out of the box by Reading striker Dave Kitson.

Fulham continued to push for a second before halftime, but Davies, Dempsey and Kamara all missed chances to double the home side's advantage.

It would come back to haunt them in the second half, as Reading attacked with much more energy and soon had a goal through Kevin Doyle in the 54th minute.

However, Fulham would withstand Reading's pressure for a winner via Clint Dempsey. The American was in the right place at the right time for substitute Shefki Kuqi's knockdown header in the box, which was tapped home in the 71st minute.

Reading continued to push for an equalizer, but David Healy put the result beyond all doubt in the 90th minute with a finish off the counterattack.

TOFFEES SCORE LAST GASP WIN

Everton needed all 90 minutes and then some to get three points from their clash with Birmingham City at Goodison Park on Saturday.

Stoppage time goals from Lee Carsley and James Vaughan sealed the points for the Toffees, for whom Tim Howard started and played all 90 minutes.

Everton got off to a fast start in the match, going ahead thanks to an Ayegbeni Yakubu goal in only the ninth minute. The big Nigerian made no mistake in finishing off Steven Pienaar's pass, giving the Toffees the 1-0 home lead.

Everton thoroughly dominated much of the match, limiting Birmingham's chances while at the same time dominating possession and creating the most scoring chances.

However, it seemed no Everton player was equipped to finish these chances. Yakubu, Carsley, Leon Osman, and Tim Cahill all missed chances for the Toffees, who saw their wastefulness punished in the 79th minute.

It was Olivier Kapo who provided the goal for Birmingham, as the Frenchman easily headed in a corner kick.

The goal provided a much-needed Wake-up cal to Everton, who searched in desperation for a winner until Carsley provided them one with a long-range bomb that beat Birmingham keeper Maik Taylor in stoppage time.

When 19-year old substitute James Vaughn added a third in stoppage time, the result was beyond all doubt.

Scoring
EVE - Ayegbeni Yakubu 3 (Steven Pienaar) 9'

ROVERS GO GOALLESS WITH LIVERPOOL

Full recap to follow...

HAMMERS DRAWN AT THE DEATH
West Ham missed the chance to move into the top half of the Premier League as they gave away an injury time equalizer to finish 1-1 with Bolton Wanderers at Upton Park.

It was a tale of two volleys in East London: George McCartney gave the home club the lead with an aerial spectacular after 20 minutes and the Northern Irishman's goal looked set to hand the Hammers the three points before Trotters skipper Kevin Nolan pounced in the third minute of injury time to draw the sides level.

Jonathan Spector replaced Hayden Mullins five minutes into the second half and slotted into an unfamiliar central midfield role.

The US international saved a certain goal with a last-ditch clearance from an El-Hadji Diouf header moments before the Bolton captain's close range equalizer.

The goal was due reward for Bolton taking the game to their hosts after going behind in the first half. Henri Camara had a strike ruled out for offside and Diouf also saw a goalbound effort repelled by McCartney, while both Kevin Davies and Danny Guthrie hit the woodwork for Wanderers.

The Hammers, who visit Derby Saturday, stay in the 11th spot in the Premier League.

WHU - George McCartney 1 20'
BOL - Kevin Nolan 1 (Lubomir Michalik) 93'

BAGGIES PLAY RUDE WATFORD GUESTS

Watford suffered their first home defeat of the season with a comprehensive 3-0 loss to West Brom at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

Jay Demerit started for the Hornets, but was forced out of the match due to injury after only 10 minutes.

His presence and experience may have been sorely missed, because from then on West Brom kept most of the possession and created quality scoring chances.

Two of these chances were easily finished off by the Baggies in a two-minute span in the first half, with Ishmael Miller scoring in the 33rd minute before Kevin Phillips doubled their advantage.

Things would get even worse for Watford after the interval, with Martin Albrechtsen scoring on a header in the 49th minute.

Watford tried desperately to get back in the game, but their offensive forays were well held back by the West Brom defense.

Scoring
WBA - Ishmael Miller 6 33'
WBA - Kevin Phillips 9 (James Morrison) 35'
WBA - Martin Albrechtsen 1 (Jonathan Greening) 49'

Line-ups

OWLS START WIN STREAK ON ROAD

Sheffield Wednesday surely seem to have put their terrible start to the season behind them after coming from behind to win 2-1 at Plymouth on Saturday.

Frank Simek started and played the full 90 at right back for Wednesday, who move out of the relegation zone for the first time this season with the win.

Most of the action took place after the interval, with Sylvain Ebanks-Blake scoring a penalty kick only 26 seconds into the second half after Simek brought down Peter Halmosi in the box.

It didn't take much time for Wednesday to respond, however, as Akpo Sodje scored five minutes later before turning provider after another four minutes as he fed Burton O'Brien for the game-winning goal.

Scoring
PLY - Sylvain Ebanks-Blake 6 (PK) 45'
WED - Akpo Sodje 1 52'
WED - Burton O'Brien 2 (Akpo Sodje) 56'

Line-ups
PLY - Luke McCormick; Paul Connolly (Dan Gosling 77'), Krisztian Timar, Marcel Seip, Lee Hodges, Lee Martin, David Norris, Lilian Nalis, Peter Halmosi, Sylvan Ebanks-Blake (Rory Fallon 73'), Barry Hayles (Jermaine Easter 73')
