Beasley Excited to Land In Scotland

Scottish Premier League giants Glasgow Rangers unveiled a widely grinning DaMarcus Beasley in a Thursday afternoon press conference at their Murray Park training facility, north of Glasgow.

The Fort Wayne, Indiana native arrived for approximately €1 million and signed a contract that will keep him in a light blue shirt until 2010.

Helping "Da Bease" with his decision were friends and ex-teammates from both sides of the Atlantic, including former Captain America Claudio Reyna, who played for Rangers from 1999-2001, and former PSV Eindhoven teammate Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, who plays for new cross-town
rivals Celtic.

"Claudio has said nothing but good things about his time in Glasgow, how friendly the people are, and a great family environment with the club," Beasley told reporters at the press conference.

When asked by American Soccer Daily whether the recent Gold Cup final, judged by many to be the best in recent history, prepared him for the atmosphere of an upcoming Old Firm encounter with Celtic, the former Chicago Fire player countered that he already had enough preparation for the big stages.

"Playing in the PSV-Ajax and the Manchester derbies was a great experience for me, and while the Celtic-Rangers rivalry is supposed to be the best in the world, I think I can handle it," asserted Beasley.

Asked by ASD whether this move gives him a leg up for the USMNT left midfield role, the speedy midfielder replied: "It's not about having a leg up on anybody."

"The US coaches see every game, and they know who's in form. It's a great honor to play for your country, and if you're in form, you get picked."

Beasley is now planning to take some well-earned time off after playing nearly non-stop for over two years, and will join his new club for a preseason tour of Germany in July.

However, his schedule will heat up once again as he confirmed to ASD that he expects USMNT coach Bob Bradley to call his number for the upcoming friendlies against Switzerland, Sweden, and Catalonia.
