RANDERS STUN COPENHAGEN
In a highly entertaining game with plenty of chances at both ends, Randers FC delivered a surprise when they defeated defending champs FC Copenhagen 2-1 in front of a home crowd of 7,078 at Essex Park on Saturday evening.

Lee Nguyen went the distance for the home side with a decent performance at right midfield. Will John did not dress for the game.

As expected, the visitors took charge from the beginning, but failed to capitalize on early chances from Mathias Jørgensen and William Kvist.

Instead, Randers worked their way into the game, and after 28 minutes, Tidiane Sane delivered a perfectly-timed through ball for Bédi Buval, who found a wide open Søren Berg in front of goal for the opener.

Only two minutes later, a slip from Ralf Pedersen gave Jesper Grønkjær a golden one-on-one opportunity for the equalizer, but the Denmark veteran hesitated, giving enough time for Robert Arzumanyan to make the last second tackle.

The second half was as even as the first had been, and it seemed fair when Grønkjær set up Atiba Hutchinson with a flick off the heel. Kevin Stuhr-Ellegaard saved the Canadian's shot, but Morten Nordstrand was first to the rebound and tapped it it for the equalizer.

With three minutes left, however, the result went from a surprising draw to a sensational win for Randers when Fabio da Silveira's shot took a deflection off Jørgensen's foot and beat Copenhagen keeper Jesper Christiansen.

With the win, Randers move past Brøndby into eighth place before Thursday's trip to Aalborg.

AARHUS BACK TO WINNING WAYS
Aarhus GF finally recorded their first win of 2008 when they sent bottom dwellers Lyngby home from NRGi Park with a 3-1 result in front of 11,029 spectators on Sunday afternoon.

Jeremiah White played the full 90 minutes for the home side and crowned his Man of the Match performance with his second goal of the season.

Lyngby could not afford to lose the game if they were to have any hope of catching up to AGF in the relegation race, but only 28 seconds in, it was Jerry Lucena who fired a left-footed missile from 30 yards out to give the home side the lead.

Aarhus seemed to have the game under control, but after 33 minutes, Kim Aabech was sent down the left and his perfect cross found the head of Christian Holst for the equalizer.

Only six minutes later, however, Peter Graulund sent Dioh Williams through on goal and the Liberian made it 2-1.

White was a threat from the beginning of the second half. His first chance was squandered when he tried to find Graulund in front of goal instead of taking the shot himself.

Twelve minutes into the half, however, the American received the ball on the edge of the box and with no one to pass it to, moved himself into a shooting position to fire a low drive past Lyngby keeper Rune Pedersen to seal the win.

AGF extend their survival lead on Viborg to eight points despite the Greens' surprising 1-1 result against FC Midtjylland. White and his teammates travel to meet FC Copenhagen on Thursday.

AALBORG MISS THEIR CHANCE
With FC Copenhagen and FC Midtjylland both throwing points in their weekend games, Aalborg BK had a golden opportunity to move even further clear in the championship race when they faced Esbjerg away on Monday evening but settled for a 1-1 away draw in front of 6,211 spectators at Blue Water Arena.

Danny Califf played another 90 minutes in Aalborg's central defense and put in a solid performance. Esbjerg backup keeper Tally Hall watched from the bench.

It was the visitors who put on the early pressure with early attempts from Jeppe Curth and Siyabonga Nomvethe, but toward the half-hour mark, Esbjerg started to join the game as well.

After several failed clearances in Aalborg's defense, it was Frank Hansen who moved past Michael Jacobsen on the right and delivered a square ball for Søren Rieks who scored the opener.

AaB fought back, and 14 minutes later, it was Curth who showed up at the far post to put his foot to Kasper Risgård's cross for the equalizer.

The second half was a messy affair, and it was only in the dying minutes that AaB's Andreas Johansson and then Esbjerg's Niki Zimling saw their attempts blocked by defenders.

With the draw, Aalborg maintain their five-point lead on second place FC Midtjylland, while their cushion on FC Copenhagen is extended to six. They host Randers FC on Thursday.
