After a stuttered start to the season, Fulham's versatile American attacker Clint Dempsey has found golden form to be recognized as the club's Player of the Month for August.

In the last two games, the former Revolution forward has donated two goals and two assists to the cause, including helping architect a dramatic comeback draw against London rivals Tottenham.

As reward for that industry, the club's supporters have elevated the American to the club's best of the month ahead of finalists Alexei Smertin and David Healy, each of whom put two goals to their names.

"It's always an honor when you're recognized by the fans for your play," Dempsey told the club's official website. "The season didn't start out exactly how I wanted in terms of playing time, but through working hard the coach gave me a chance and I was able to show that I could play."

The US National Team star had until recently been alien to the striker's niche, but has found himself racking up experience up-front for both club and country as of late.

"I've been watching Brian (McBride), who is a more experienced player and does a better job in the air," added Dempsey.

"But through watching him and playing more I hope to be successful in that position for as long as I'm on the field. The most important thing for me is to play and contribute towards the team. In whatever position play, I want to be the best that I can be."

Dempsey will hope to lead the Cottagers to bigger and better things starting with Saturday's trip to face Wigan at the JJB.
