Dalby on Der Club Trial

Former Notre Dame and US Under-20 skipper Greg Dalby is continuing his search for a European club with a week-long audition with Bundesliga battlers FC Nürnberg.

The midfielder was recently denied a UK work permit that would have allowed him to join Preston North End, and has also seen interest from the likes of Celtic, Siena and Werder Bremen.

"He came on Tuesday, and started training with the team," Nürnberg press officer Martin Haltermann told American Soccer Daily. "I think he will be here until next Tuesday or Wednesday."

Although Dalby is working with the first team during his visit, coach Hans Meyer does currently have traffic director types Tomáš Galásek, Marco Engelhardt and Peer Kluge on board.

"We have some players for the position of defensive midfielder," conceded Haltermann of the UEFA Cup entrants. "But (Dalby) is very young, and could be someone for the future."

The 21-year old Dalby, who was selected by the Colorado Rapids with the 17th pick of the 2007 MLS SuperDraft in January, was the 2002 Gatorade National High School Player of the Year.
