After having been forced to watch as his work permit appeal denied by the UK Home Office following an all-but-complete move to Preston North End, former Notre Dame midfielder Greg Dalby has joined Belgian Jupiler League side Charleroi on a one-year deal. |

| The contract, which includes an additional two-year option, makes Dalby the second American playing in Belgium's top flight, along with Standard Liège defender Oguchi Onyewu. "Greg has signed a one-year contract with a two-year option," Dalby's ProActive Management liaison, Joe Schoenbauer, told American Soccer Daily. The jump from England to Belgium might catch some by surprise, but from all signs, it's appearing to be an amicable arrangement. "We contacted Charleroi and learned they were looking for a central midfielder, and organized a trial for Greg," Schoenbauer added. "He impressed right away and was offered a contract shortly after. All parties are excited and we feel it is a great fit!" After a summer hiatus from regular club play, the former Notre Dame star might be forced to wait before making his first team debut. "He has begun this week, with extra training to reach full fitness before joining up with the first team who are already a few games into their season." said Schoenbauer. Charleroi is currently sitting in fourth place, five points behind the league leaders, Onyewu's Standard. With the international break currently in effect, Dalby will be hoping to use his time to build up fitness and work his way in contention for the upcoming league schedule. Charleroi travels to mid-table dwellers Germinal Beerchot on September 14th before hosting powerhouse Club Brugge, the following week. |
