Despite the sidelining, the Royals believe the US attacker will be able to get back in the game before long.

Convey was in the final stages of regaining full fitness from a long term knee lay-off, but that recovery has not been affected and he is not expected to return to the shelf.

"It's an injury at the top of his thigh," Reading press officer Simon Heggie told American Soccer Daily. "He picked it up during Thursday's training."

"It's a strained muscle. That sort of injury shouldn't be a longstanding one."
