With the club set to table a contract extension offer, Aalborg BK skipper Danny Califf says he'd rather put such matters off until they've finished chasing the Danish crown.

The table toppers will resume SAS Liga play at Odense BK on March 15th, and AaB sport director Lynge Jakobsen publicly stated on Wednesday that he hoped to have his backline marshal tied down by then.

"We have told Danny today that we will make him an offer and he has to decide if that is good enough for him," he told local daily Norjyske.

The executive also hinted that Califf, who has spoken in the past of one day leaping to mainland Europe, could be receiving interest from abroad. The US international says he has no concrete proposals to play elsewhere, but is keeping all options open for the moment.

"At the moment, I have no offers in writing, but I feel I have to take my time and wait 'til later in the year to make a decision on the future," Califf told American Soccer Daily. "I wouldn't mind staying with AaB, but it is still too early to say one way or the other."

On a more pressing matter, the US international and his teammates are busy preparing for the league resumption. Aalborg currently sit in the penthouse, two points ahead of defending champs FC Copenhagen.

Complicating their quest is the January departure of second leading scorer Rade Prica to Sunderland, but Califf believes they can still claim the title thanks to a few minor alterations. Left winger Anders Due has arrived from Vitesse and coach Erik Hamrén also managed to gain former Heerenveen speedster Lasse Nilsson on loan from St. Etienne.

"I think we have made a couple of very good signings," he said. "But it is going to very difficult to replace Rade Prica."

"He is more of a presence physically, but I think we still have what it takes to win gold! We will have to adjust our play, though, to take advantage of their strengths."
